Cleaning & Inspection

All parts should be thoroughly washed in cleaning solvent and dried with compressed air. Do not spin bearings with compressed air. Remove gaskets with stiff brush or scraper.
Clean bearings separately from other parts. Hold bearing races so bearings will not rotate and use soft brush to remove all foreign material. Inspect all bearings, rollers, races and spacers for galling or flat spots.
Lubricate bearings with a light grade oil and check for roughness by slowly turning race by hand. If bearings are okay, wrap them in clean paper until ready to install.
Examine all gear teeth and splines for chips, wear, breaks or nicks. Examine case, housing, retainers and covers for cracks, distortion or other damage. Inspect thrust washers, snap rings and snap ring grooves for wear or damage.
Check all synchronizers for wear, damage and proper fit. Coat all moving parts with oil before installation. Always use new gaskets, oil seals and snap rings. Replace parts as required.
