Ball Joint: Removal

  1. Remove steering knuckle from vehicle. See LOWER CONTROL ARM, STEERING KNUCKLE & COIL SPRING REMOVAL in this article. Remove self-locking nuts retaining ball joints to steering knuckle.
  2. Using Special Tool (VW 267a), press lower ball joint adapter off of ball joint. Remove circlip and press out lower ball joint. Press upper ball joint out with same tool.
