On-Vehicle Inspection [03/2019 - ]: Procedure

  1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE 
    WARNING:
    • Make sure the engine coolant temperature is 60°C (140°F) or less when performing this procedure.
    • Do not disconnect any part of the fuel system until you have discharged the fuel system pressure.
    • Pressure will still remain in the fuel lines even after performing the following procedure. When disconnecting a fuel line, cover it with a piece of cloth to prevent fuel from spraying or coming out.
    1. Remove the deck side trim cover RH.
    2. Remove the fuse from the position shown in the illustration.

    3. Start the engine. After the engine has stopped on its own, turn the ignition switch off.
      NOTE:

      Do not increase the engine speed or drive the vehicle while waiting for the engine to stop on its own.

    4. Crank the engine again and make sure that the engine does not start.

      HINT: 

      Clear the fault code before proceeding to the next step.

    5. Remove the fuel tank cap and discharge the pressure from the fuel tank assembly.
    6. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    7. Install the fuse.
    8. Install the deck side trim cover RH.
  2. CHECK FUEL DELIVERY PRESSURE 
    WARNING:
    • Working on fuel system.
    • Risk of fire! Danger of explosion!
      • When working on the fuel system, make sure that the workbay is sufficiently ventilated, e.g. using extraction unit.
      • Tightly seal off open lines and connections; collect any escaping fuel directly at the point of exit.
      • No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.
    • On releasing high pressure line, fuel may emerge at high speed.
    • Danger of injury!
      • Wear suitable personal protective equipment.
      • Allow the cooling system to cool down to a temperature below 40°C before starting installation work.
      • Note warnings on cylinder head cover.

    HINT: 

    Collect and dispose of emerging fluids. Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

    1. Detach the circlip (1).

    2. Unlock lock (2).
    3. Detach the fuel hose (3) from fuel line.
    4. Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.
    5. Unscrew adapter (1) of the special tool 0 491 310 (13 5 270).

    6. In the separate fuel supply line the special tool0 491 310 (13 5 270).

    7. Fuel pressure gauge on the Screw special tool 0 491 310 (13 5 270).
      • SST: 09200-WA020 
    8. Build up fuel supply pressure.
    9. Read off fuel pressure at the pressure gauge.
    10. Observe the diagnostic instructions.
    11. After completing the measurement: Remove all special tools.
    12. Collect and dispose of escaping fuel with suitable equipment.
    13. Connect the fuel hose to the fuel line and lock
    14. Collect and dispose of escaping fuel with suitable equipment.
    15. Atach the circlip.
