Removal [06/2020 - 12/2021]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to read precaution thoroughly before servicing.

    Refer to PRECAUTION [06/2020 - 10/2022]

    NOTE:
    • After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

      Refer to BEFORE DISCONNECTING BATTERY [06/2020 - 10/2022]

    • Do not remove the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) except when replacing it.
    • When removing the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU), always replace it with a new one.
  2. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [06/2020 - 12/2021]

  3. REMOVE NO. 3 INSTRUMENT PANEL TO COWL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Detach the guide and wire harness clamp.

    2. Remove the nut, bolt and No. 3 instrument panel to cowl brace sub-assembly.

  4. REMOVE POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX ASSEMBLY WITH MAIN BODY ECU 
    1. w/ Outer Rear View Mirror Foot light:
      1. w/ TOYOTA Parking Assist-sensor System:

        Disconnect the 5 connectors.

      2. w/o TOYOTA Parking Assist-sensor System:

        Disconnect the 4 connectors.

      3. Detach the wire harness clamp.
    2. w/o Outer Rear View Mirror Foot light:
      1. w/ TOYOTA Parking Assist-sensor System:

        Disconnect the 4 connectors.

      2. w/o TOYOTA Parking Assist-sensor System:

        Disconnect the 3 connectors.

      3. Detach the wire harness clamp.
    3. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, detach the claw and disconnect the 2 lever connectors.

    4. Detach the wire harness clamp.
    5. Disconnect the 3 connectors.
    6. Disconnect the 5 connectors.

    7. Remove the 2 nuts.

    8. Detach the claw and disconnect the power distribution box assembly with main body ECU.
    9. Detach the claw and remove the power distribution box assembly with main body ECU from the connector holder.

    10. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, detach the claw and disconnect the 2 lever connectors.

      Rotate in this Direction Protective Tape
    11. Disconnect the connector.
    12. Detach the wire harness clamp and remove the power distribution box assembly with main body ECU.
  5. REMOVE MAIN BODY ECU (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU) 
    1. Detach the claw and remove the junction block bracket from the power distribution box assembly with main body ECU.

    2. Press the lock of the power distribution box assembly and release the lock of the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) as shown in the illustration.

    3. While pressing the lock, horizontally insert a thin-bladed screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape between the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) and power distribution box assembly.
      NOTE:

      Use a screwdriver with a diameter between 5.0 mm (0.197 in.) and 6.3 mm (0.248 in.) and a length of approximately 90 mm (3.54 in.).

    4. When the thin-bladed screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape is inserted, the internal connector lock is released.

      NOTE:
      • Do not twist the screwdriver to raise the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).
      • Do not excessively insert the screwdriver. Otherwise, the internal connector terminals may become deformed or damaged.
      • Replace the power distribution box assembly when the connector terminal, the locking section, or the case is damaged or deformed.
    5. Hold the rib of the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).

    6. While rotating the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU), completely release the lock.

    7. Remove the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) from the power distribution box assembly.
