Removal [06/2020 - 12/2021]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After the ignition switch is turned off, there may be a waiting time before disconnecting the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

    Refer to BEFORE DISCONNECTING BATTERY [06/2020 - 10/2022]

  2. REMOVE NO. 1 FLOOR UNDER COVER 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts, 3 clips and No. 1 floor under cover from the rear suspension member sub-assembly.

  3. REMOVE REAR STABILIZER BAR 

    Refer to REMOVAL [06/2020 - ] 

  4. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH 

    Refer to REMOVAL [06/2020 - 12/2021]

  5. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  6. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH 

    See step  7

  7. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  8. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the bolt, nut and rear No. 1 suspension arm assembly from the rear suspension member sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      Because the nut has its own stopper, do not turn the nut. Loosen the bolt with the nut secured.

  9. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  10. REMOVE SERVICE PLUG GRIP 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  11. REMOVE NO. 2 INVERTER PROTECTOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  12. REMOVE CONNECTOR COVER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  13. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  14. INSTALL CONNECTOR COVER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  15. INSTALL NO. 2 INVERTER PROTECTOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

  16. REMOVE MAIN MUFFLER HEAT INSULATOR 

    See step  3

  17. DISCONNECT FLOOR UNDER WIRE 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    NOTE:

    Insulate the disconnected connectors with insulating tape.

      Disengage the clamp.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts and HV floor under wire from the rear traction motor with transaxle assembly.
      NOTE:
      • Do not damage the terminals, interlock connector or rear traction motor with transaxle assembly during disconnection.
      • Do not touch the waterproof seal or terminals of the connector.
      • Do not allow any foreign matter or water to enter the rear traction motor with transaxle assembly.
      • Although the connector may feel loose, this is not due to a malfunction.

    3. Temporarily install the HV floor under wire as shown in the illustration.

  18. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt.

    2. Disengage the 7 clamps to separate the wire harness.

      Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.

    4. Using an engine lifter and 4 attachments or equivalent tools, support the rear suspension member sub-assembly as shown in the illustration.
      WARNING:
      • The rear suspension member sub-assembly is a very heavy component. Make sure that it is supported securely.
      • If the rear suspension member sub-assembly is not securely supported, it may drop, resulting in serious injury.

      NOTE:

      Use attachments or equivalent tools to keep the rear suspension member sub-assembly level.

    5. Remove the 2 bolts, 4 nuts, 2 rear suspension member lower stoppers, rear suspension member lower brace LH and rear suspension member lower brace RH.
    6. Slowly lower the rear suspension member sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      When lowering the rear suspension member sub-assembly, be careful not to damage the vehicle body or other components installed to the vehicle.

    7. Remove the 4 rear suspension member cushions from the rear suspension member sub-assembly.

      HINT: 

      Make sure to place an identification mark on the rear suspension member cushion so that they can be reinstalled to their original positions.

  19. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  20. REMOVE REAR TRACTION MOTOR WITH TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  21. REMOVE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY LH 

    See step  3

  22. REMOVE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  23. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER FRONT BODY MOUNTING CUSHION (for LH Side) 
    1. Using a chisel and hammer, bend the 2 portions of the rear suspension member front body mounting cushion rib.
      NOTE:

      Make sure to bend the 2 portions of the cushion rib until the claws of SST can fit securely.

    2. Apply lubricant to the contact surfaces of the rear suspension member front body mounting cushion.
    3. Install SST as shown in the illustration.

      NOTE:

      Apply molybdenum grease to the threads and tip of the SST center bolt before use.

    4. Using SST, remove the rear suspension member front body mounting cushion while applying lubricant into the clearance between the rear suspension member front body mounting cushion and the rear suspension member sub-assembly.
      • SST: 09830-10010

      • SST: 09950-40011 
        1. 09951-04010
        2. 09952-04010
        3. 09954-04010
        4. 09955-04061
        5. 09958-04011
      NOTE:
      • Set the claws of SST into the rear suspension member sub-assembly securely as shown in the illustration.
      • Tighten SST slowly and evenly.
      • Be careful as the rear suspension member front body mounting cushion may fly out.
      • The rear suspension member front body mounting cushion cannot be reused.

    5. Remove SST and the rear suspension member front body mounting cushion from the rear suspension member sub-assembly.
  24. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER FRONT BODY MOUNTING CUSHION (for RH Side) 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  25. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER REAR BODY MOUNT CUSHION LH 
    1. Install SST as shown in the illustration.
      • SST: 09950-00020 
      • SST: 09950-00030 
      • SST: 09950-60011 
        1. 09951-00330
      NOTE:

      Apply molybdenum grease to the threads and tip of the SST center bolt before use.

    2. Using SST, remove the rear suspension member rear body mount cushion LH while applying lubricant into the clearance between the rear suspension member rear body mount cushion LH and the rear suspension member sub-assembly.
      • SST: 09950-00020 
      • SST: 09950-00030 
      • SST: 09950-60011 
        1. 09951-00330
      NOTE:
      • Tighten SST slowly and evenly.
      • Be careful as the rear suspension member rear body mount cushion LH may fly out.
      • The rear suspension member rear body mount cushion LH cannot be reused.

    3. Remove SST and the rear suspension member rear body mount cushion LH from the rear suspension member sub-assembly.
  26. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER REAR BODY MOUNT CUSHION RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  27. REMOVE DIFFERENTIAL MOUNT CUSHION 
    1. Using SST, remove the differential mount cushion.
      • SST: 09316-12010 
      • SST: 09570-24011

      *1 Rear Suspension Member Sub-assembly - -
      *a Turn *b Hold
      Turning Direction Front of Vehicle
      SST Bolt Position - -
      NOTE:
      • Do not bring SST into contact with the rear suspension member sub-assembly.
      • Before using SST, apply grease to SST bolt.
      • Set SST in the correct direction.
      • Do not tilt the bolt of SST.
      • Do not reuse the differential mount cushion.
  28. REMOVE HOLE PLUG 
    1. Remove the 6 hole plugs from the rear suspension member sub-assembly.

      HINT: 

      There are 2 different shapes of hole plug.
