Disassembly [11/2022 - 09/2024]: Procedure
- REMOVE INTAKE VALVE
- Using SST, compress each intake valve compression spring and remove the 6 valve spring retainer locks.

HINT:
Arrange the removed parts in such a way that they can be reinstalled to their original locations.

- Remove the 6 valve spring retainers, 6 intake valve compression springs and 6 intake valves from the cylinder head sub-assembly.

- Using SST, compress each intake valve compression spring and remove the 6 valve spring retainer locks.
- REMOVE EXHAUST VALVE WARNING:
- The exhaust valve is encapsulated with metallic sodium. The metallic sodium is a strong alkaline and prone to cause a serious chemical reaction. Therefore, extra caution is required when handling or disposing the exhaust valve.
- Never disassemble the exhaust valve. The metallic sodium may cause blindness if it gets into your eyes, or cause burn injuries or chemical reactions resulting in fire if it comes into contact with your skin or any heat source.
- Make sure to wear safety glasses and protective gloves when removing a damaged exhaust valve.
- Do not intentionally damage the exhaust valve to remove the metallic sodium.
HINT:
- The sodium inside the exhaust valve is safe as long as the sodium is not exposed to air.
- Exhaust valves filled with sodium can be identified by confirming the "NA" identification mark.
- Using SST, compress each exhaust valve compression spring and remove the 6 valve spring retainer locks.

- REMOVE VALVE STEM OIL SEAL
- REMOVE VALVE SPRING SEAT
- REMOVE NO. 1 STRAIGHT SCREW PLUG NOTE:
If coolant leaks from a No. 1 straight screw plug or a plug is corroded, replace it.
- Using a 6 mm straight hexagon wrench, remove the 2 No. 1 straight screw plugs from the cylinder head sub-assembly.
- REMOVE NO. 2 STRAIGHT SCREW PLUG NOTE:
If coolant leaks from a No. 2 straight screw plug or a plug is corroded, replace it.
- REMOVE STUD BOLT NOTE:
If a stud bolt is deformed or its threads are damaged, replace it.
- REMOVE STRAIGHT PIN NOTE:
If a straight pin is deformed or its threads are damaged, replace it.
- DISPOSE OF EXHAUST VALVE WARNING:
- The exhaust valve is encapsulated with metallic sodium. The metallic sodium is a strong alkaline and prone to cause a serious chemical reaction. Therefore, extra caution is required when handling or disposing the exhaust valve.

NOTE:If it is known that the method of industrial waste disposal is a melting type method and not a press type method, then disposal is permitted. If the valve is damaged, remove the valve from the cylinder head and perform the neutralization process, then dispose of the valve using the same process as for ordinary steel.
HINT:
- The sodium inside the exhaust valve is safe as long as the sodium is not exposed to air.
- The exhaust valve in which metallic sodium is encapsulated can be identified with the embossed mark.
- Preparation for neutralization processWARNING:
Always carry out the following when performing the disposal procedure.
- Ensure a fire extinguisher is at hand.
- Wear safety glasses.
- Wear protective gloves.
- Neutralization process
- Wear protective gloves and then remove the damaged valve from the cylinder head.
- Place a large container (bucket or other container) in a well-ventilated area and fill it with water (at least 10 liters).
- Place the damaged exhaust valve inside the container in an upright position using large pliers or similar tool to submerge it under water.WARNING:
- Ensure the damaged exhaust valve is fully submerged in water.
- Keep any fire sparks or fire sources away from this container because hydrogen gas will be emitted from the chemical reaction.
- Because of serious chemical reaction, step back at least 2 to 3 m from the container.
- After the chemical reaction has completed (approximately 4 to 5 hours), using large pliers or similar tool, carefully remove the valve from the container, and then dispose of it according to the same procedures that are provided for other parts.WARNING:
- After the chemical reaction, be careful not to let used liquid (sodium hydrate) contact your skin. Should it contact your skin, immediately rinse it with plenty of water.
- After the chemical reaction, dispose of used liquid (sodium hydrate) according to all applicable government and local regulations.
