DTC B1500: Fuel Sender Open Detected [10/2024 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check for DTCs.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Trouble Codes 

      OK

      DTC B1500 (current code) is not output.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Disconnect the M17 fuel sender gauge assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the M9 No. 2 fuel sender gauge assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the F11 combination meter assembly connector.
    4. Check the condition of each connector.

      OK

      Each connector is normal.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE THE POOR CONTACT OF CONNECTOR. 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. READ VALUE USING GTS 
    1. Read the Data List according to the display on the GTS.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Diagnostic Note
      Fuel level resistance [ohm] Fuel sensor value display 0 to 511.5 ohm -

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List

      OK

      The value of 0 to 480 ohm is displayed in the Data List item.

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK 

    HINT: 

    • Even if DTC is displayed, the circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.

      Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2021 - ]

    • In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, temporary open or short circuit of harness may be the cause.

    Result:

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - ]

  4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS 
    1. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the GTS.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test

  6. INSPECT NO. 2 FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY OR NO. 2 FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the M17 fuel sender gauge assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the M9 No. 2 fuel sender gauge assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the F11 combination meter assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M17-1 - F11-25(FUEL SENSOR+) Always Below 10 Ω
      M9-2 - F11-26(FUEL SENSOR GND) Always Below 10 Ω
      M17-4 - M9-1 Always Below 10 Ω
      M17-1 or F11-25(FUEL SENSOR+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      M17-4 or M9-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result
