DTC B166D: Lost Communication with Front Door Pressure Sensor RH; DTC B166E: Front Door Pressure Sensor RH Initialization Incomplete [02/2019 - 08/2020]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly RH and side airbag pressure sensor RH.

      Result

      Proceed to
      The connectors are properly connected
      The connectors are not properly connected

    Result: 

    The connectors are not properly connected 

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    Result: 

    The connectors are properly connected

  2. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly RH and side airbag pressure sensor RH.

      *1 Side Airbag Pressure Sensor RH
      *2 No. 2 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly RH
      *3 Front Door Wire RH
      *4 Floor Wire
    2. Check that the connectors (on the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly RH side and side airbag pressure sensor RH side) are not damaged.

      Result

      Proceed to
      The connectors are not deformed or damaged
      The connectors are deformed or damaged

    Result: 

    The connectors are deformed or damaged 

    REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH OR FLOOR WIRE 

    Result: 

    The connectors are not deformed or damaged

  3. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG PRESSURE SENSOR RH CIRCUIT 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

      *2 No. 2 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly RH
      *3 Front Door Wire RH
      *4 Floor Wire

      (to No. 2 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly RH)
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      I10-2 (BDR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      I10-1 (BDR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    4. Turn the ignition switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 1 (BDR+) and 2 (BDR-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      I10-2 (BDR+) - I10-1 (BDR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      I10-2 (BDR+) - I10-1 (BDR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      I10-2 (BDR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      I10-1 (BDR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

  4. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG PRESSURE SENSOR RH 
    1. Connect the connector to the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly RH.

      *1 Side Airbag Pressure Sensor LH
      *2 No. 2 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly RH
    2. Interchange the side airbag pressure sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [11/2018 - 08/2020]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [11/2018 - 08/2020]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Proceed to
      DTC B166D or B166E is output
      DTC B167B or B167C is output
      DTCs B166D, B166E, B167B and B167C are not output

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B166D, B166E, B167B and B167C may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    11. Return the side airbag pressure sensor LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    Result: 

    DTC B167B or B167C is output 

    REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG PRESSURE SENSOR RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [02/2019 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020] 

    Result: 

    DTCs B166D, B166E, B167B and B167C are not output 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2018 - ] 

    Result: 

    DTC B166D or B166E is output

  5. CHECK NO. 2 SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Interchange the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly RH with LH and connect the connectors to them.

      *1 No. 2 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly LH
      *2 Airbag Sensor Assembly
    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [11/2018 - 08/2020]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [11/2018 - 08/2020]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Proceed to
      DTC B166D or B166E is output
      DTC B167B or B167C is output
      DTCs B166D, B166E, B167B and B167C are not output

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B166D, B166E, B167B and B167C may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    8. Turn the ignition switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    10. Return the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    Result: 

    DTC B166D or B166E is output 

    REPLACE AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [02/2019 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020] 

    Result: 

    DTC B167B or B167C is output 

    REPLACE NO. 2 SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [02/2019 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020] 

    Result: 

    DTCs B166D, B166E, B167B and B167C are not output 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2018 - ] 

  6. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.

      *2 No. 2 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly RH
      *3 Front Door Wire RH
      *4 Floor Wire
    2. Check that the connectors (on the floor wire side and front door wire RH side) are not damaged.

      Result

      Proceed to
      The connector is not deformed or damaged
      The connector is deformed or damaged

    Result: 

    The connector is deformed or damaged 

    REPLACE FLOOR WIRE OR FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

    Result: 

    The connector is not deformed or damaged

  7. CHECK FLOOR WIRE 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      IM2-1 (BDR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      IM2-2 (BDR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    4. Turn the ignition switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 1 (BDR+) and 2 (BDR-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      IM2-1 (BDR+) - IM2-2 (BDR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      IM2-1 (BDR+) - IM2-2 (BDR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      IM2-1 (BDR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      IM2-2 (BDR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    Result:

    REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
