Speed Signal Circuit [11/2022 - 11/2023]: Procedure

  1. CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (INPUT VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the I4 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
      NOTE:
      • Make sure to perform this inspection with the wheels stopped.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      I4-8 (+S) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 14 V
    3. Connect the I4 combination meter assembly connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG

  2. CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (INPUT WAVEFORM) 
    1. Connect the combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Check the signal waveform according to the condition(s) in the table below.

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Combination Meter Assembly)
      *b Waveform
      Item Condition
      Tester connection I4-25 (SI) - Body ground
      Tool setting 5 V/DIV., 20 ms./DIV.
      Condition Ignition switch ON, wheel being rotated

      OK

      The waveform is similar to that shown in the illustration.

      HINT: 

      When the system is functioning normally, one wheel revolution generates 4 pulses. As the vehicle speed increases, the width indicated by (A) in the illustration narrows.

  4. CHECK FOR DTC (SMART KEY SYSTEM (FOR START FUNCTION)) 
    1. Check if smart key system (for start function) DTCs are output.

      Body Electrical > Power Source Control > Trouble Codes

      DTCs are not output (for HEV Model) B
      DTCs are output C

    Result:

  5. CHECK CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the I222 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the I4 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the I222 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      I222-28 (SPDO) or I4-25 (SI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [11/2022 - 11/2023]

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  7. CHECK SKID CONTROL ECU (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) (SHORT TO GROUND)

    *a Component with harness connected
    (Skid Control ECU (Brake Actuator Assembly))
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A151-33 (SP1) - Body ground Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result:

    REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY)

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the I4 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the A151 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A151-33 (SP1) or I4-25 (SI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [11/2022 - 11/2023]

  9. CONFIRM MODEL

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the I222 certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.
    2. Disconnect the I4 combination meter assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      I222-28 (SPDO) - I4-25 (SI) Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) 

    Refer to REMOVAL [11/2022 - ]

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A151 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    2. Disconnect the I4 combination meter assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A151-33 (SP1) - I4-25 (SI) Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU (BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) 

    Refer to REMOVAL [11/2022 - ]

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EACH ECU - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A47 ECM connector.*1
      1. *1: for Gasoline Model
    2. Disconnect the I55 radio and display receiver assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the I234 stereo component amplifier assembly connector.*1
      1. *1: w/ Stereo Component Amplifier
    4. Disconnect the I4 combination meter assembly connector.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A47-42 (SPD) - I4-8 (+S)*1 Always Below 1 Ω
      I55-8 (SPD) - I4-8 (+S) Always Below 1 Ω
      I234-11 (SPD) - I4-8 (+S)*2 Always Below 1 Ω
      A47-42 (SPD)*1, I55-8 (SPD), I234-11 (SPD)*2 or I4-8 (+S) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      1. *1: for Gasoline Model
      2. *2: w/ Stereo Component Amplifier
