Fuel Receiver Gauge Display Malfunction [12/2018 -]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTC (SFI SYSTEM) 
    1. Check if SFI system DTCs are output.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output A
      DTCs are output B

    Result: 

    GO TO SFI SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [12/2018 - 08/2019]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2019 - 07/2020]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [07/2020 -] 

    Result:

  2. CHECK FOR DTC (ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM) 
    1. Check if electronically controlled brake system DTCs are output.

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      DTCs are not output A
      DTCs are output B

    Result: 

    GO TO ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [12/2018 - 08/2019]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2019 -]

  3. CHECK SYMPTOMS 
    1. Ask the customer about the problem symptoms.

      Result

      Malfunction occurs when adding fuel (Even after adding fuel, reading does not increase at all or increases very slowly, etc.) A

  4. CHECK FOR DTC (METER / GAUGE SYSTEM) 
    1. Check if DTC B1500 is output.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Trouble Codes

      DTC B1500 is output B

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC B1500. Refer to  DTC B1500: Fuel Sender Open Detected [12/2018 -]

  5. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the Techstream.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test

  6. CHECK FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE (OPERATION BY ADDING FUEL) 
    1. Record the fuel receiver gauge reading.
    2. If the fuel tank assembly is almost full, drain 20 liters or more of fuel. (This is not necessary when the fuel tank assembly is sufficiently below full.)
    3. Perform a manual update of the fuel receiver gauge.
      1. Display the odometer on the multi-information display.
      2. Turn the power switch off.
      3. With the ODO/TRIP switch pressed, perform the following procedures.
        1. Turn the power switch to on (IG).
        2. Continue to keep the ODO/TRIP switch pressed for 5 seconds until the odometer blinks.
        3. After the odometer blinks, release the ODO/TRIP switch.
    4. Add 2.0 liters (2.1 US qts, 1.8 Imp. qts) or more of fuel, turn the power switch on (IG), and check that the fuel receiver gauge reading increases in proportion to the amount of fuel added.

  7. CHECK FOR DTC (METER / GAUGE SYSTEM) 
    1. Check if DTC B1500 is output.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1500 is not output A
      DTC B1500 is output B

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC B1500. Refer to  DTC B1500: Fuel Sender Open Detected [12/2018 -]

  8. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.

  9. CHECK FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE 
    1. Perform a manual update of the fuel receiver gauge.
      1. Display the odometer on the multi-information display.
      2. Turn the power switch off.
      3. With the ODO/TRIP switch pressed, perform the following procedures.
        1. Turn the power switch to on (IG).
        2. Continue to keep the ODO/TRIP switch pressed for 5 seconds until the odometer blinks.
        3. After the odometer blinks, release the ODO/TRIP switch.
    2. Check if the fuel receiver gauge reading corresponds with the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank assembly.

  10. INSPECT FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY 

    HINT: 

    Inspect the fuel tank assembly and fuel sender assembly for deformation, foreign matter or an improperly installed fuel receiver gauge, as this may be the cause of the fuel receiver gauge malfunction.

    1. Visually check the fuel tank assembly for any abnormalities.
    2. Check if there is an excessive amount of foreign matter in the fuel tank assembly.
    3. Visually check the fuel sender gauge assembly for damage and confirm that it operates correctly.
    4. Check the installation condition of the fuel tank assembly and fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Result

      There is an excessive amount of foreign matter in the fuel tank assembly C
      The fuel sender gauge assembly is visually damaged or does not operate correctly D

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (METER CIRCUIT PLATE). Refer to  DISASSEMBLY [11/2015 -]

    REPLACE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2018 - 07/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 -]

    CLEAN INSIDE OF FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY

    REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2018 - 07/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 -] 

    Result: 

    INSTALL FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY OR FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY CORRECTLY
