Speedometer Malfunction [11/2015 - 12/2018]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if CAN communication DTCs are output.

      Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [11/2015 - 11/2017] , or refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [11/2017 - 12/2018]

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      CAN communication DTCs are not output. A
      CAN communication DTCs are output. B

    Result: 

    GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2015 - 12/2018]

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (SPEED METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the Techstream.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Speed Meter Operation Speedometer OFF, 0, 40, 80, 120, 160 There is a deviation in the values displayed on the speedometer (Control range → Speedometer display)
      Reference mph:
      • 40 → 40 to 42
      • 80 → 81 to 83
      • 120 → 122 to 124
      • 160 → 163 to 165

      Reference km/h:
      • 40 → 40 to 42
      • 80 → 81 to 83
      • 120 → 122 to 124
      • 160 → 163 to 165

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test 

      Tester Display
      Speed Meter Operation

      OK

      Speedometer indication is normal.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (METER CIRCUIT PLATE). Refer to  DISASSEMBLY [11/2015 -] 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if electronically controlled brake system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [11/2015 - 12/2018]

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Electronically controlled brake system DTCs are not output. A
      Electronically controlled brake system DTCs are output. B

    Result: 

    GO TO ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2015 - 12/2018]

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED, VEHICLE SPEED METER) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus:
      1. for ABS/VSC/TRAC: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Data List.
      2. for Combination Meter: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC

      HINT: 

      • When the Data List values of the ECUs match, an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly (meter circuit plate) is suspected.
      • When the Data List values of the ECUs do not match, a signal output malfunction of the skid control ECU (brake booster with master cylinder assembly) or an internal malfunction of the combination meter assembly (meter circuit plate) is suspected.

    Result: 

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (METER CIRCUIT PLATE). Refer to  DISASSEMBLY [11/2015 -]

  5. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (METER CIRCUIT PLATE) 
    1. Replace the combination meter assembly (meter circuit plate) with a new or known good one.

      Refer to DISASSEMBLY [11/2015 -]

      OK

      The operation of the speedometer returns to normal.

    REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU (BRAKE BOOSTER WITH MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2015 - 12/2018]
