Fuel Receiver Gauge Display Malfunction [11/2015 - 12/2018]: Procedure

  1. CHECK SYMPTOMS 
    1. Ask the customer about the problem symptoms.

      Result

      Malfunction occurs when adding fuel (Even after adding fuel, reading does not increase at all or increases very slowly, etc.) A

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.
    5. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the Techstream.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Active Test

  3. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if SFI system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [11/2015 - 07/2020]

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      SFI system DTCs are not output. A
      SFI system DTCs are output. B

    Result: 

    GO TO SFI SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [11/2015 - 08/2016]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2016 - 11/2017]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [11/2017 - 12/2018]

  4. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check if electronically controlled brake system DTCs are output.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [11/2015 - 12/2018]

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC > Trouble Codes

      Electronically controlled brake system DTCs are not output. A

  5. CHECK FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE OPERATION BY ADDING FUEL 
    1. Record the fuel receiver gauge reading.
    2. If the fuel tank assembly is almost full, drain 20 liters or more of fuel. (This is not necessary when the fuel tank assembly is sufficiently below full.)
    3. Perform a manual update of the fuel receiver gauge.
      1. Display the odometer on the multi-information display.
      2. Turn the power switch off.
      3. With the ODO/TRIP switch pressed, perform the following procedures.
        1. Turn the power switch to on (IG).
        2. Continue to keep the ODO/TRIP switch pressed for 5 seconds until the odometer blinks.
        3. After the odometer blinks, release the ODO/TRIP switch.
    4. Add 5.0 liters or more of fuel, turn the power switch on (IG), and check that the fuel receiver gauge reading increases in proportion to the amount of fuel added.

  6. INSPECT FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY 

    HINT: 

    Inspect the fuel tank assembly for deformation, foreign matter or an improperly installed fuel receiver gauge, as this may be the cause of the fuel receiver gauge malfunction.

    1. Visually check the fuel tank assembly for any abnormalities.
    2. Check if there is an excessive amount of foreign matter in the fuel tank assembly.
    3. Check the installation condition of the fuel tank assembly and fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Result

      Appearance of the fuel tank assembly is abnormal. B
      There is an excessive amount of foreign matter in the fuel tank assembly. C
      The fuel tank assembly or fuel sender gauge assembly is not installed correctly. D

  7. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List

    1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (METER CIRCUIT PLATE) - FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the F6 combination meter assembly (meter circuit plate) connector.
    2. Disconnect the M10 fuel suction tube with pump and gauge assembly connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F6-29 (FR) - M10-3 (FR) Always Below 1 Ω
      F6-30 (FE&B) - M10-2 (FE) Always Below 1 Ω
      F6-31 (FV) - M10-1 (FV) Always Below 1 Ω

  11. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2015 - 12/2018]

    2. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [11/2015 - 12/2018]

      OK

      Fuel sender gauge assembly is normal.

  12. INSPECT FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

  13. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL METER OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test.

  16. CHECK FOR DTC

  17. INSPECT FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE 
    1. Perform a manual update of the fuel receiver gauge.
      1. Display the odometer on the multi-information display.
      2. Turn the power switch off.
      3. With the ODO/TRIP switch pressed, perform the following procedures.
        1. Turn the power switch to on (IG).
        2. Continue to keep the ODO/TRIP switch pressed for 5 seconds until the odometer blinks.
        3. After the odometer blinks, release the ODO/TRIP switch.
    2. Check if the fuel receiver gauge reading corresponds with the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank assembly.

      Result
