DTC B1500: Fuel Sender Open Detected [12/2018 -]: Procedure

  1. CONFIRM MODEL 
    1. Choose the model to be inspected.

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Fuel Input Fuel input Min.: 0 L, Max.: 127.5 L
      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates F (8th segment illuminated):

        38.7 to 39.8 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates 3/4 (6th segment illuminated):

        29.8 to 34.1 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates 1/2 (4th segment illuminated):

        21.3 to 25.6 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates 1/4 (2th segment illuminated):

        12.8 to 17.0 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates E (Segment not illuminated):

        1.8 to 4.3 L

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List

      Result Proceed to
      Fuel level data can be displayed on the Techstream A
      Fuel level data cannot be displayed on the Techstream B

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (METER CIRCUIT PLATE). Refer to  DISASSEMBLY [11/2015 -]

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL INPUT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Data List.
    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates F (8th segment illuminated):

        36.0 to 38.0 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates 3/4 (6th segment illuminated):

        28.0 to 32.0 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates 1/2 (4th segment illuminated):

        20.0 to 24.0 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates 1/4 (2th segment illuminated):

        12.0 to 16.0 L

      • Fuel receiver gauge indicates E (Segment not illuminated):

        1.9 to 4.0 L

      Body Electrical > Combination Meter > Data List

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (METER CIRCUIT PLATE). Refer to  DISASSEMBLY [11/2015 -]

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (METER CIRCUIT PLATE)) 
    1. Disconnect the M10 fuel suction tube with pump and gauge assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the F6 combination meter assembly (meter circuit plate) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M10-3 (FR) - F6-29 (FR) Always Below 1 Ω
      M10-2 (FE) - F6-30 (FE&B) Always Below 1 Ω
      M10-1 (FV) - F6-31 (FV) Always Below 1 Ω
      M10-3 (FR) or F6-29 (FR) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      M10-2 (FE) or F6-30 (FE&B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      M10-1 (FV) or F6-31 (FV) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      NG

    Result:

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  5. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      HINT: 

      Refer to REMOVAL [12/2018 - 07/2020] , or refer to REMOVAL [07/2020 -]

    2. Inspect the fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [12/2018 -]

      OK

      Fuel sender gauge assembly is normal.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2018 - 07/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [07/2020 -]

    OK

  6. INSPECT FUEL SUCTION TUBE WITH PUMP AND GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M10-3 (FR) - A-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      M10-1 (FV) - A-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      M10-2 (FE) - A-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      M10-1 (FV) - M10-3 (FR)
      or
      A-3 - A-1
      Always 10 kΩ or higher
      M10-1 (FV) - M10-2 (FE)
      or
      A-3 - A-2
      Always 10 kΩ or higher
      M10-2 (FE) - M10-3 (FR)
