Drive Mode Select Switch Circuit [11/2020 - 12/2023]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING GTS (CAN BUS CHECK) 
    1. Enter the following menus: System Select / CAN Bus Check.

      CAN Bus Check 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      All of the ECUs and sensors that are currently connected to the CAN communication system are displayed A
      None of the ECUs and sensors that are currently connected to the CAN communication system are displayed, or some of them are not displayed B

    Result: 

    GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2020 - 11/2021]  , or refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2021 - 12/2022]  , or refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [12/2022 - 12/2023] 

    Result: 

    See step  2

  2. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HEALTH CHECK) 
    1. Check for DTCs.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No DTCs are output. A
      DTCs are output. B
    2. Turn the ignition switch off.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART 

    Result:

  3. CHECK DRIVE MODE STATUS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (IG).
    2. Operate the DRIVE MODE switch (No. 1 pattern select switch assembly) to change the drive mode.
    3. Check that the drive mode indicator is displayed on the multi-information display and changes according to the selected drive mode.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The display changes according to the DRIVE MODE switch operation A
      The display does not change according to the DRIVE MODE switch operation B
    4. Turn the ignition switch off.

    Result: 

    GO TO PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [11/2020 - 12/2023]

  4. READ VALUE USING GTS (DRIVE MODE SWITCH-, DRIVE MODE SWITCH+) 
    1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List / Drive Mode Switch-, Drive Mode Switch+.
    2. Read the value displayed on the GTS.

      Powertrain > EV > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Drive Mode Switch-
      Drive Mode Switch+

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The display changes according to the DRIVE MODE switch operation A
      Other than above B
    3. Turn the ignition switch off.

    Result: 

    CHECK METER / GAUGE SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2020 - 11/2021]  , or refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2021 - 12/2023] 

    Result:

  5. INSPECT DRIVE MODE SWITCH (NO. 1 PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 

    Refer to INSPECTION [11/2020 - ]

    Result

    Proceed to
    OK
    NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE NO. 1 PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2020 - ] 

    Result: 

    OK

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DRIVE MODE SWITCH (NO. 1 PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSEMBLY) - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the D5 DRIVE MODE switch (No. 1 pattern select switch assembly) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to DRIVE MODE Switch (NO. 1 Pattern Select switch Assembly))

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D5-3 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG
    3. Reconnect the D5 DRIVE MODE switch (No. 1 pattern select switch assembly) connector.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EV CONTROL ECU - DRIVE MODE SWITCH (NO. 1 PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSEMBLY)) 
    1. Disconnect the A8 EV control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the D5 DRIVE MODE switch (No. 1 pattern select switch assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      (to EV Control ECU)
      *b Front view of wire harness connector
      (to DRIVE MODE Switch (Combination Switch Assembly))

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A8-30 (DMS-) - D5-4 (DMS-) Always Below 1 Ω
      A8-25 (DMS+) - D5-1 (DMS+) Always Below 1 Ω
      A8-30 (DMS-) or D5-4 (DMS-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A8-25 (DMS+) or D5-1 (DMS+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      OK
      NG
    4. Reconnect the D5 DRIVE MODE switch (No. 1 pattern select switch assembly) connector.
    5. Reconnect the A8 EV control ECU connector.

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE EV CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2020 - 11/2021]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2021 - 12/2022]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [12/2022 - 12/2023] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
