DTC U0111-87: Lost Communication with Hybrid/EV Battery Energy Control Module "A" Missing Message [11/2020 - 12/2022]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (EV BATTERY) 

    Pre-procedure1

    • None.
    • Check for DTCs.

      Powertrain > EV Battery > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output A
      DTCs are output B

    Post-procedure1

    • Turn the ignition switch off.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID BATTERY). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [11/2020 - 12/2022] 

    Result:

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AM, IGCT VOLTAGE) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    Pre-procedure1

    • Check that the service plug grip and FC converter power outlet cable are not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip and FC converter power outlet cable, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair Service Information because this may cause a malfunction.

    • Remove the No. 2 center floor to brace extension.

      HINT: 

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - 12/2022]

    • Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      (No. 2 EV Battery Pack Wire Connector)

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition Result
      G156-5 (AM) - G156-1 (GND) Ignition switch off 11 to 14 V V
      G156-14 (IGCT) - G156-1 (GND) Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V V
      NOTE:

      Turning the ignition switch to ON (IG) with the service plug grip removed causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

      HINT: 

      As there might be an intermittent malfunction in the battery ECU assembly power source circuit, inspect the following even if the measured voltage is as specified:

      • Installation condition of fuse(s) (before removing fuse(s)) (IGCT circuit)
      • Fuse condition (before and after removing fuse(s)) (IGCT circuit)
      • Connection condition of connectors (IGCT circuit)
      • Wire harness condition (IGCT circuit)
      • Wire harness condition (GND circuit)

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Post-procedure1

    • Turn the ignition switch off.
    • Install the No. 2 center floor to brace extension.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BATTERY ECU ASSEMBLY POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EV CONTROL ECU - NO. 2 HV BATTERY PACK WIRE CONNECTOR) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    Pre-procedure1

    • Check that the service plug grip and FC converter power outlet cable are not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair Service Information because this may cause a malfunction.

    • Remove the No. 2 center floor to brace extension.

      HINT: 

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - 12/2022]

    • Disconnect the G156 No. 2 EV battery pack wire connector.
      NOTE:
      • Before disconnecting the connector, check that it is not loose or disconnected.
      • Check the terminals of the connector for deformation and corrosion.

    • Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    • Reconnect the G156 No. 2 EV battery pack wire connector.

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 2 EV BATTERY PACK WIRE CONNECTOR - BATTERY ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    Pre-procedure1

    • Check that the service plug grip and FC converter power outlet cable are not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip and FC converter power outlet cable, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair Service Information because this may cause a malfunction.

    • Remove the upper No. 1 EV battery cover sub-assembly.

      HINT: 

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - 12/2022]

    • Disconnect the z26 battery ECU assembly connector.

      NOTE:
      • Before disconnecting the connector, check that it is not loose or disconnected.
      • Check the terminals of the connector for deformation and corrosion.
    • Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 2 EV BATTERY PACK WIRE CONNECTOR - BATTERY ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    Pre-procedure1

    • Check that the service plug grip and FC converter power outlet cable are not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip and FC converter power outlet cable, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair Service Information because this may cause a malfunction.

    • Remove the upper No. 1 EV battery cover sub-assembly.

      HINT: 

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - 12/2022]

    • Disconnect the z26 battery ECU assembly connector.

      NOTE:
      • Before disconnecting the connector, check that it is not loose or disconnected.
      • Check the terminals of the connector for deformation and corrosion.
    • Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Post-procedure1

    • Reconnect the z26 battery ECU assembly connector.
    • Install the upper No. 1 EV battery cover sub-assembly.

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE BATTERY ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2020 - 11/2021]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2021 - 12/2022] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EV CONTROL ECU - NO. 2 EV BATTERY PACK WIRE CONNECTOR) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    Pre-procedure1

    • Check that the service plug grip and FC converter power outlet cable are not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip and FC converter power outlet cable, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair Service Information because this may cause a malfunction.

    • Disconnect the A8 EV control ECU connector.
      NOTE:
      • Before disconnecting the connector, check that it is not loose or disconnected.
      • Check that each connector between the EV control ECU and battery ECU assembly is not loose or disconnected.
    • Disconnect the D92 shift control ECU connector.
      NOTE:

      Before disconnecting the connector, check that it is not loose or disconnected.

    • Remove the No. 2 center floor to brace extension.

      HINT: 

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2020 - 11/2021] , or refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - 12/2022]

    • Disconnect the G156 No. 2 EV battery pack wire connector.
      NOTE:
      • Before disconnecting the connector, check that it is not loose or disconnected.
      • Check the terminals of the connector for deformation and corrosion.

    • Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      NOTE:

      Make sure that each connector between the No. 2 HV battery pack wire connector and EV control ECU is not loose or disconnected and its terminals are not deformed or corroded.

    Post-procedure1

    • Reconnect the G156 No. 2 EV battery pack wire connector.
    • Install the No. 2 center floor to brace extension.
    • Reconnect the D92 shift control ECU connector.
    • Reconnect the A8 EV control ECU connector.

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE EV CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2020 - 11/2021]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2021 - 12/2022] 

    Result: 

    NG
