Fuel Receiver Gauge Malfunction [11/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if CAN communication DTCs are output.

      for HV Model: Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [11/2023 - ]

      for Gasoline Model: Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [11/2023 - ]

      DTCs are not output A
      DTCs are output B

    Result: 

    GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

  2. CHECK FOR DTC (ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM) 
    1. Check if electronically controlled brake system DTCs are output.
      1. for HV Model

        Chassis > Brake/EPB > Trouble Codes 

        Chassis > Brake Booster > Trouble Codes 

      2. for Gasoline Model

        Chassis > Brake/EPB > Trouble Codes 

      Result

    GO TO ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM

  3. CHECK FOR DTC (SFI SYSTEM) 
    1. Check if SFI system DTCs are output.

  4. CHECK SYMPTOMS 
    1. Ask the customer about the problem symptoms.

  5. MANUALLY UPDATE FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE 
    1. Perform a manual update of the fuel receiver gauge.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [11/2023 - ]

    2. Check that the display value of the fuel receiver gauge has changed.

    HINT: 

    Symptom caused by amount of fuel filled being too low to trigger refueling judgment, or refueling in an undetectable range.

  6. CHECK FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE (OPERATION BY ADDING FUEL) 
    1. If the fuel tank sub-assembly is almost full, drain 20 liters (21.1 US qts, 17.6 Imp. qts) or more of fuel.

      HINT: 

      This is not necessary when the fuel tank sub-assembly is sufficiently below full.

    2. Record the fuel receiver gauge reading.
    3. Turn the ignition switch off.
    4. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to reset the fuel receiver gauge.
    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    7. Drive the vehicle at 1.8 km/h (1 mph) or more, then stop the vehicle.
    8. Turn the ignition switch off.
    9. Add the following amount of fuel or more.
      1. for HV Model: 2.0 liters (2.1 US qts, 1.8 Imp. qts)
      2. for Gasoline Model: 5.0 liters (5.3 US qts, 4.4 Imp. qts)
    10. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    11. Check that the fuel receiver gauge reading increases in proportion to the amount of fuel added.

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY

  7. CHECK FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE 
    1. Record the fuel receiver gauge reading.
    2. Turn the ignition switch off.
    3. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

      HINT: 

      This resets the current fuel level information stored by the combination meter assembly.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    5. Wait 30 seconds or more.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    7. Check if the fuel receiver gauge reading corresponds with the amount of fuel remaining in the fuel tank.
      NOTE:

      After turning the ignition switch to ON, it may take approximately 30 seconds until the fuel receiver gauge indicates the determined value.

  8. INSPECT FUEL TANK SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    HINT: 

    Inspect the fuel tank sub-assembly and fuel sender assembly for deformation, foreign matter or an improperly installed fuel receiver gauge, as this may be the cause of the fuel receiver gauge malfunction.

    1. Visually check the fuel tank sub-assembly for any abnormalities.
    2. Check if there is an excessive amount of foreign matter in the fuel tank sub-assembly.
    3. Visually check the fuel sender gauge assembly for damage and confirm that it operates correctly.
    4. Check the installation condition of the fuel tank sub-assembly and fuel sender gauge assembly.

      Result

      There is an excessive amount of foreign matter in the fuel tank sub-assembly C
      The fuel sender gauge assembly is visually damaged or does not operate correctly D

    INSTALL FUEL TANK SUB-ASSEMBLY OR FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY CORRECTLY
