DTC C1434: Steering Angle Sensor Output [04/2018 - 08/2021]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC
    1. Clear the DTCs.

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC/EPB > Clear DTCs

    2. Turn the engine switch off.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG) again and check that no CAN communication system DTCs are output.

Refer to HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [04/2018 -]

    4. Start the engine.
    5. Drive the vehicle at a speed of 50 km/h (31 mph) and turn the steering wheel to the right and left and then check that no speed sensor or yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) DTCs are output.

      Chassis > ABS/VSC/TRAC/EPB > Trouble Codes

      Result

      Result Proceed to
No CAN communication system, speed sensor, or yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) DTCs are output A
CAN communication system DTCs are output B
Speed sensor and/or yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) DTCs are output C

      HINT:

      • If a speed sensor or the yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) is malfunctioning, DTCs for the steering angle sensor may be stored even though the steering angle sensor is normal.
      • If speed sensor and yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag sensor assembly) DTCs are output simultaneously, repair these malfunctions and then inspect the steering angle sensor.

    Result:

INSPECT CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [04/2018 -]

    Result:

REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT DTC. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [04/2018 - 08/2020]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2020 - 08/2021]

    Result:

    See step  2

  2. CHECK STEERING ANGLE SENSOR INSTALLATION
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Check that the steering angle sensor has been installed properly.

      Refer to INSTALLATION [04/2018 -]

      OK

The steering angle sensor installation is normal.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK

    2. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connector.

      OK

      The connector is securely connected.

    3. Disconnect the G48 steering angle sensor connector.
    4. Check both the connector case and the terminals for deformation and corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G48-4 (BAT) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
      G48-9 (IG1) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V
