Brake Warning Light Remains ON [08/2019 - ]: Procedure

  1. PRE-CHECK 
    1. Check that all of the following conditions required for the brake system warning light (red indicator) to turn off are met:
      1. The ABS warning light is not illuminated.

        HINT: 

        If the ABS warning light remains illuminated, make sure that the conditions required for the ABS warning light to turn off are met.

        Refer to ABS Warning Light Remains ON [08/2019 - ]

      2. The brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir assembly is not low.

      Result

      Proceed to

    Result: 

    NEXT

  2. INSPECT MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Brake Fluid Level Warning Switch (Master Cylinder Reservoir Assembly))
    2. Remove the reservoir filler cap and strainer.
    3. Disconnect the A54 brake fluid level warning switch (master cylinder reservoir assembly) connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      HINT: 

      A float is located inside the reservoir. Its position can be changed by increasing or decreasing the level of brake fluid.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Switch off (Float up) 10 kΩ or higher
      Switch on (Float down) Below 1 Ω

      HINT: 

      If there is no problem after finishing the above check, adjust the brake fluid level to the MAX level.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SUB-ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the A2 parking brake switch assembly connector.
    2. Inspect the parking brake switch assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [08/2015 - ]

      OK

      The parking brake switch assembly is normal.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2019 - ] 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT) 
    1. Disconnect the F14 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F14-16 (SW) or A54-1 (+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  5. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Reconnect the A54 brake fluid level warning switch (master cylinder reservoir assembly) connector.
    2. Reconnect the F14 combination meter assembly connector.
    3. Reconnect the A2 parking brake switch assembly connector.
    4. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    6. Turn the Techstream on.
    7. Perform Active Test of the combination meter assembly using the Techstream.
      BODY ELECTRICAL > COMBINATION METER > ACTIVE TEST

      Tester Display
      Indicat. Lamp Brake
    8. Check the combination meter assembly.

      OK

      The brake system warning light (red indicator) turns on or off in accordance with the Techstream.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2019 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    INSPECT METER / GAUGE SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [08/2015 - ]
