DTC B1633-81: Rear Airbag Sensor Assembly RH Initialization Incomplete; DTC B1638-82: Rear Airbag Sensor Assembly LH Initialization Incomplete [08/2015 - 08/2019]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

      HINT: 

      If a communication error occurs, DTCs for both the LH and RH sides will be stored simultaneously. The malfunctioning area can be identified by turning the ignition switch off and then to ON again.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    3. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2019] ).
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1633 and B1638 are not output A
      DTC B1638 is output B
      DTC B1633 is output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1633 and B1638 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    Result: 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK 

    (Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2015 - 08/2019] )

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and rear airbag sensor RH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    Result: 

    NG 

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and rear airbag sensor RH.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and rear airbag sensor RH side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

  4. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      N9-4 (BBR+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      N9-3 (BBR-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    3. Turn the ignition switch off.
    4. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 17 (BBR+) and 18 (BBR-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      N9-4 (BBR+) - N9-3 (BBR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      N9-4 (BBR+) - N9-3 (BBR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      N9-4 (BBR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      N9-3 (BBR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    Result: 

    OK

  5. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor.

    2. Interchange the rear airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2019] ).
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2019] ).
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1633 and B1638 are not output A
      DTC B1638 is output B
      DTC B1633 is output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1633 and B1638 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    11. Return the rear airbag sensor LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    Result: 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK

    REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH

  6. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Interchange the side airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in memory (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2019] ).
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2019] ).
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1633 and B1638 are not output A
      DTC B1638 is output B
      DTC B1633 is output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1633 and B1638 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

      *2 Rear Airbag Sensor RH
    8. Turn the ignition switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    10. Return the side airbag sensor LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    Result: 

    REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

    Result: 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK 

    (Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2015 - 08/2019] )

    Result: 

    REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

  7. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and rear airbag sensor LH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    Result: 

    NG 

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    Result: 

    OK

  8. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and rear airbag sensor LH.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and rear airbag sensor LH side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

  9. CHECK NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      O8-4 (BBL+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      O8-3 (BBL-) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
    3. Turn the ignition switch off.
    4. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    5. Using a service wire, connect terminals 24 (BBL+) and 23 (BBL-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting a service wire.

    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      O8-4 (BBL+) - O8-3 (BBL-) Always Below 1 Ω
    7. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      O8-4 (BBL+) - O8-3 (BBL-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      O8-4 (BBL+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      O8-3 (BBL-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE NO. 2 FLOOR WIRE 

    Result: 

    OK

  10. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH 
    1. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor.

    2. Interchange the rear airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2019] ).
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2019] ).
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1633 and B1638 are not output A
      DTC B1633 is output B
      DTC B1638 is output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1633 and B1638 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the ignition switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    11. Return the rear airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

    Result:

  11. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH 
    1. Interchange the side airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors to them.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
