On-Vehicle Inspection [02/2019 - ]: Procedure

- SECURE VEHICLE
- Fully apply the parking brake and chock a wheel.
- INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
- When moving the shift lever from P to R with the ignition switch ON (IG) and the brake pedal depressed, check that the shift lever moves smoothly and correctly into position.
- Start the engine and check that the vehicle moves forward when the shift lever is moved from N to D and moves rearward when the shift lever is moved to R.
If the operation is not as specified, inspect or adjust the shift lever position sensor or transmission control cable assembly.
- INSPECT SHIFT LOCK OPERATION
- Move the shift lever to P.
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Check that the shift lever cannot be moved from P to any other position.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (IG), depress the brake pedal, and check that the shift lever can be moved to another position.
If the operation is not as specified, inspect the shift lock control unit assembly.

- INSPECT SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON OPERATION
- Move the shift lever to P.
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Remove the shift lever hole cover.
See step 1
- Press the shift lock release button and check that the shift lever can be moved from P to any other position.
- INSPECT KEY INTERLOCK OPERATION (w/o Smart Key System)
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to any position other than P.
- Check that the ignition switch cannot be turned to LOCK.
- Move the shift lever to P, turn the ignition switch to LOCK and check that the key can be removed.
If the operation is not as specified, inspect the transmission floor shift assembly.
