DTC C1380-7F: Stop Lamp Relay Actuator Stuck Off [11/2018 - 12/2021]: Procedure

  1. CHECK STOP LIGHT OPERATION 
    1. Check that the stop lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed.

      OK

      The stop lights illuminate.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (STOP LAMP RELAY) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Brake/EPB / Active Test.

      Chassis > Brake/EPB > Active Test 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Control Range Restrict Condition Diagnostic Note
      Stop Lamp Relay Stop light control relay (Stop light switch assembly) OFF / ON Vehicle condition: Vehicle stopped
      HINT: 
      To protect this actuator and solenoid, this test will only last 5 seconds.

      Chassis > Brake/EPB > Active Test

      Stop Lamp Relay
    4. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test and check the operation of the stop lights.

      OK

      Stop lights turn on in accordance with the Active Test.

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SIGNAL INPUT CIRCUIT) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.

      OK

      (to Skid Control ECU (Brake Actuator Assembly))
    2. Disconnect the A39 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Check both the connector case and the terminals for deformation and corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A39-43 (STP2) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 11 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [08/2020 - 10/2022] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  4. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY (ACC TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connector.

      (Stop Light Switch Assembly)

      OK

      The connector is securely connected.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A40-4 (ACC) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

    REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - ]

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.

      OK

    2. Disconnect the A39 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Check both the connector case and the terminals for deformation and corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A39-33 (STPO) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 11 to 14 V

      Result

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [08/2020 - 10/2022] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  6. CHECK STOP LIGHT OPERATION 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.

      OK

      The connector is securely connected.

    2. Disconnect the A39 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Check both the connector case and the terminals for deformation and corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    4. Check that the stop lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed.

      OK

      The stop lights illuminate.

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [08/2020 - 10/2022]

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - REAR COMBINATION LIGHT SOCKET AND WIRE LH) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.

      OK

      (to Rear Combination Light Socket and Wire LH)
    2. Disconnect the A39 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Disconnect the N18 rear combination light socket and wire LH connector.
    4. Check both the connector case and the terminals for deformation and corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      N18-2 (B) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 11 to 14 V

      Result

    GO TO LIGHTING SYSTEM (REAR COMBINATION LIGHT ASSEMBLY LH (STOP LIGHT CIRCUIT)) 

    Refer to "Left or right stop light does not illuminate" of problem symptoms table.

    w/ Headlight ECU: Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [11/2018 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2020 - 12/2021]

    w/o Headlight ECU: Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [11/2018 - 02/2019] , or refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [02/2019 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2020 - 12/2021]

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - REAR COMBINATION LIGHT SOCKET AND WIRE RH) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.

      OK

      (to Rear Combination Light Socket and Wire RH)
    2. Disconnect the A39 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Disconnect the N18 rear combination light socket and wire LH connector.
    4. Disconnect the M14 rear combination light socket and wire RH connector.
    5. Check both the connector case and the terminals for deformation and corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M14-2 (B) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 11 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to

    Result:

    GO TO LIGHTING SYSTEM (REAR COMBINATION LIGHT ASSEMBLY RH (STOP LIGHT CIRCUIT)) 

    Refer to "Left or right stop light does not illuminate" of problem symptoms table.

    w/ Headlight ECU: Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [11/2018 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2020 - 12/2021]

    w/o Headlight ECU: Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [11/2018 - 02/2019] , or refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [02/2019 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2020 - 12/2021]

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - CENTER STOP LIGHT CORD ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.

      OK

    2. Disconnect the A39 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Disconnect the N18 rear combination light socket and wire LH connector.
    4. Disconnect the M14 rear combination light socket and wire RH connector.
    5. Disconnect the R1 center stop light cord assembly connector.
    6. Check both the connector case and the terminals for deformation and corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    7. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      R1-2 (B) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 11 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to

    Result:

    GO TO LIGHTING SYSTEM (CENTER STOP LIGHT ASSEMBLY) 

    Refer to "High mounted stop light does not illuminate" of problem symptoms table.

    w/ Headlight ECU: Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [11/2018 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2020 - 12/2021]

    w/o Headlight ECU: Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [11/2018 - 02/2019] , or refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [02/2019 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [08/2020 - 12/2021]

    Result: 

    NG

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY - REAR COMBINATION LIGHT ASSEMBLY LH) 
    1. Make sure that there is no looseness at the locking part and the connecting part of the connectors.

      OK

      The connector is securely connected.

    2. Disconnect the A39 skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) connector.
    3. Disconnect the A40 stop light switch assembly connector.
    4. Disconnect the N18 rear combination light socket and wire LH connector.
    5. Disconnect the M14 rear combination light socket and wire RH connector.
    6. Disconnect the R1 center stop light cord assembly connector.
    7. Check both the connector case and the terminals for deformation and corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A40-1 (OUT) - N18-2 (B) Always Below 1 Ω
      A40-1 (OUT) or N18-2 (B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG
