DTC P0AD9-15: Hybrid/EV Battery Positive Contactor Circuit Short to Auxiliary Battery or Open [06/2020 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SMRB STATUS) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / SMRB Status.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List

    5. Turn the ignition switch off.

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SMRB VOLTAGE) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    CONNECT SECURELY 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the A31 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A31-16 (SMRB) - Body ground Ignition switch off 25.0 to 59.0 Ω

    3. Reconnect the A31 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY WIRES) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the service information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [06/2020 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [08/2020 - 12/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [12/2021 - 10/2022] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [10/2022 - 10/2023] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [10/2023 - ]

    3. Disconnect the M32 HV battery junction block assembly connector.

    4. Disconnect the A31 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A31-16 (SMRB) or M32-1 (SMRB) - Body ground Ignition switch to ON Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the ignition switch to ON with the hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector and the HV battery junction block assembly connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    7. Turn the ignition switch off.
    8. Reconnect the A31 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    9. Reconnect the M32 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    10. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Result

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY

  9. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (FLOOR WIRE CONNECTOR)

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY - HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the service information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [06/2020 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [08/2020 - 12/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [12/2021 - 10/2022] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [10/2022 - 10/2023] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [10/2023 - ]

    3. Disconnect the M32 HV battery junction block assembly connector.

    4. Disconnect the A31 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A31-16 (SMRB) - M32-1 (SMRB) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A31-16 (SMRB) or M32-1 (SMRB) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    6. Reconnect the A31 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    7. Reconnect the M32 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    8. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    WARNING:

    3. Disconnect the M32 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      M32-3 (GND) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

    5. Reconnect the M32 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    6. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

  12. INSPECT HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY (SMRB) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the service information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [06/2020 - 08/2020] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [08/2020 - 12/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [12/2021 - 10/2022] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [10/2022 - 10/2023] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [10/2023 - ]

    3. Disconnect the M32 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M32-1 (SMRB) - M32-3 (GND) -40 to 80°C (-40 to 176°F) 25.0 to 59.0 Ω
    5. Reconnect the M32 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    6. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.
