DTC B1697-82: Lost Communication with Door Side Airbag Sensor LH; DTC B1698-82: Door Side Airbag Sensor LH Initialization Incomplete [06/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    3. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [06/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    6. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [06/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1697/82 or B1698/82 is output A
      DTC B1697/82 or B1698/82 is not output B

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1697/82 and B1698/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    Result: 

    B 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [06/2015 - 11/2018]  , or refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [11/2018 - ]

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the rear airbag sensor LH and door side airbag sensor LH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the rear airbag sensor assembly LH and door side airbag sensor LH.

      *1 Door Side Airbag Sensor Assembly LH
      *2 Rear Airbag Sensor LH
      *3 Front Door Wire LH
      *4 Floor Wire
    2. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not deformed or damaged.

      OK

      The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH CIRCUIT 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and wait for at least 2 seconds.

      *1 Door Side Airbag Sensor LH
      *2 Rear Airbag Sensor LH
      *3 Front Door Wire LH
      *4 Floor Wire
      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Door side airbag sensor LH)
      *b Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Rear airbag sensor LH)
      *c Service Wire
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L16-2 (BDL+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      L16-1 (BDL-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    6. Using a service wire, connect terminals 1 (BDL+) - 2 (BDL-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L16-2 (BDL+) - L16-1 (BDL-) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L16-2 (BDL+) - L16-1 (BDL-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
    10. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L16-2 (BDL+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      L16-1 (BDL-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:

  5. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH 
    1. Connect the connector to rear airbag sensor assembly LH.

      *1 Door Side Airbag Sensor RH
      *2 Rear Airbag Sensor LH
    2. Interchange the door side airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors.
    3. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [06/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

    6. Turn the power switch off.
    7. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [06/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1692/81 or B1693/81 is output A
      DTC B1697/82 or B1698/82 is output B
      DTC B1692/81, B1693/81, B1697/82 or B1698/82 are not output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTCs B1692/81, B1693/81, B1697/82 and B1698/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the power switch off.
    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    11. Return the door side airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors.

    Result: 

    A 

    REPLACE DOOR SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR LH. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - 11/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - ]

  6. CHECK FLOOR WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire LH.

      *1 Door Side Airbag Sensor LH
      *2 Rear Airbag Sensor LH
      *3 Front Door Wire LH
      *4 Floor Wire

      (to Rear Airbag Sensor LH)
      *c Service Wire
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      LP1-1 (BDL+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      LP1-2 (BDL-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    7. Using a service wire, connect terminals 1 (BDL+) - 2 (BDL-) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      LP1-1 (BDL+) - LP1-2 (BDL-) Always Below 1 Ω
    9. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    10. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      LP1-1 (BDL+) - LP1-2 (BDL-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
    11. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      LP1-1 (BDL+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      LP1-2 (BDL-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

  7. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH 
    1. Interchange the rear airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors.

      *1 Rear Airbag Sensor RH
      *2 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly LH
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [06/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [06/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1692/81 or B1693/81 is output A
      DTC B1697/82 or B1698/82 is output B
      DTC B1692/81, B1693/81, B1697/82 and B1698/82 are not output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTCs B1692/81, B1693/81, B1697/82 and B1698/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    8. Turn the power switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    10. Return the rear airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors.

    Result: 

    A 

    REPLACE AIR BAG SENSOR REAR RH. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - 11/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - ] 

    Result: 

    B 

    REPLACE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [06/2015 - 11/2018]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [11/2018 - ] 

    Result: 

    C
