DTC P01E3-11: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 3 Circuit Short to Ground [10/2022 - ]: Description
A thermistor, whose resistance value varies according to the engine coolant temperature, is built into the engine coolant temperature sensor (for water inlet housing side). The structure of the sensor and its connection to the ECM are the same as those of the intake air temperature sensor.
HINT:
When DTC P01E3-11 is stored, the ECM enters fail-safe mode. During fail-safe mode, the ECM changes the engine coolant temperature judgment value (for water inlet housing side) to the outlet coolant temperature - 5°C (-9°F) and sets the target engine coolant temperature to 82°C (180°F), Fail-safe mode continues until a pass condition is detected.
| DTC No. | Detection Item | DTC Detection Condition | Trouble Area | MIL | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| P01E3-11 | Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 3 Circuit Short to Ground | The engine coolant temperature sensor (for water inlet housing side) output voltage is less than 0.081 V for 3 seconds or more (1 trip detection logic). |

Comes on | SAE Code: P01E5 |
HINT:
When a DTC is output, check the Data List item "Coolant Temperature Sensor3" using the GTS.
Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [10/2022 - 11/2023] , or refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [11/2023 - ]
| DTC No. | Coolant Temperature Sensor3 | Malfunction |
|---|---|---|
| P01E3-11 | 162°C (323°F) or higher | Short to ground in THW3 circuit |
If the Data List displays a normal value, the normal value may be due to a temporary recovery from the malfunction condition. Check for intermittent problems.
