DTC P0710-00: Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance [10/2022 - ]: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2025 Toyota Highlander, 2024 Toyota Highlander, and 2023 Toyota Highlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0710-00)
    1. Read the DTCs using the GTS.

Powertrain > Transmission > Trouble Codes

      Result

      Result Proceed to
Only DTC P0710-00 is output A
      DTC P0710-00 and P0710-15 are output B
DTC P0710-00 and other DTCs are output C

      HINT:

If any DTCs other than DTC P0710-00 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

    Result:

GO TO DTC CHART (DTC P0710-15). Refer to  DTC P0710-15: Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Short to Battery or Open [10/2022 - ]

    Result:

GO TO  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2022 - 11/2023]

    Result:

    See step  2

  2. INSPECT AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID LEVEL
    1. Check the automatic transaxle fluid level.

      Refer to ADJUSTMENT [10/2022 - ]

      OK

Automatic transaxle fluid level is correct.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:

    NG

ADJUST AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID LEVEL. Refer to  ADJUSTMENT [10/2022 - ]

    Result:

    OK

    See step  3

  3. CHECK TRANSMISSION WIRE CIRCUIT
    1. Disconnect the C89 ECM connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C89-40 (THO1) - C89-41 (ETHO) ATF temperature 10°C (50°F) 5 to 8 kΩ
      C89-40 (THO1) - C89-41 (ETHO) ATF temperature 110°C (230°F) 0.22 to 0.28 kΩ
C89-41 (ETHO) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
C89-40 (THO1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      HINT:

If the resistance is out of the specified range at the ATF temperature shown in the table below, the driveability of the vehicle may decrease.

      ATF Temperature Specified Condition
      25°C (77°F) 2.5 to 4.5 kΩ

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:

    NG

    See step  5

    Result:

    Result

    Proceed to
    NEXT

    Result:

    NEXT

PERFORM REGISTRATION. Refer to  REGISTRATION [10/2022 - ]

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - ECM)
    1. Disconnect the C51 transmission wire connector.
    2. Disconnect the C89 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C51-1 (OIL) - C89-40 (THO1) Always Below 1 Ω
      C51-2 (E2) - C89-41 (ETHO) Always Below 1 Ω
C51-1 (OIL) or C89-40 (THO1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
C51-2 (E2) or C89-41 (ETHO) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:

    OK
