DTC P0AD9-15: Hybrid/EV Battery Positive Contactor Circuit Short to Auxiliary Battery or Open [11/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING GTS (SMRB STATUS) 
    1. Read the Data List.

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SMRB VOLTAGE) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

  6. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR)

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the H67 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H67-2 (SMRB) - Body ground Ignition switch off 25.0 to 59.0 Ω

    3. Reconnect the H67 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

      Result

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY WIRES) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 10 HV battery shield panel.

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2023 - ]

    3. Disconnect the M56 HV battery junction block assembly connector.

    4. Disconnect the H67 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H67-2 (SMRB) or M56-1 (SMRB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the ignition switch to ON with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector and the HV battery junction block assembly connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    7. Turn the ignition switch off.
    8. Reconnect the H67 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    9. Reconnect the M56 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    10. Install the No. 10 HV battery shield panel.

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU 

    Refer to REMOVAL [11/2023 - ]

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  9. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (FLOOR WIRE CONNECTOR)

    WARNING:

    4. Disconnect the H67 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H67-2 (SMRB) - M56-1 (SMRB) Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H67-2 (SMRB) or M56-1 (SMRB) - Body ground and other terminals Ignition switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    6. Reconnect the H67 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    7. Reconnect the M56 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    8. Install the No. 10 HV battery shield panel.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 10 HV battery shield panel.

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2023 - ]

    3. Disconnect the M56 HV battery junction block assembly connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M56-3 (GND) - Body ground Ignition switch off Below 1 Ω
    5. Reconnect the M56 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    6. Install the No. 10 HV battery shield panel.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  12. INSPECT HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY (SMRB) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the ignition switch to ON (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 10 HV battery shield panel.

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2023 - ]

    3. Disconnect the M56 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (HV Battery Junction Block Assembly)
      - -

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      M56-1 (SMRB) - M56-3 (GND) -40 to 80°C (-40 to 176°F) 25.0 to 59.0 Ω
    5. Reconnect the M56 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    6. Install the No. 10 HV battery shield panel.

      Result

      Proceed to

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
