On-Vehicle Inspection [10/2022 - ]: Procedure

  1. VISUALLY INSPECT HOSES, CONNECTIONS AND GASKETS 
    1. Check that there is no damage and cracks on the hoses and gaskets, and that there are no air or oil leaks from connections.

      HINT: 

      Cracked hoses and gaskets or loose connections may cause the engine to run improperly or stall.

  2. INSPECT TURBOCHARGER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:

    Perform this procedure in a safe location with another person.

    1. Start the engine and warm it up.
    2. Fully accelerate the vehicle with the shift lever in 2nd and measure the boost pressure when the engine speed is 4500 rpm (approximately 50 km/h (31 mph).

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Boost Pressure Sensor

      Standard Pressure

      120 kPa or higher (1.2 kgf/cm2 , 2.1 psi)

      If the result is not as specified, check the waste gate valve actuator with bracket assembly and turbocharger sub-assembly.

  3. INSPECT WASTE GATE VALVE ACTUATOR 
    1. Remove the No. 1 turbo insulator.

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2022 - ] 

    2. Using a vacuum pump, apply a vacuum of 35 +/- 4.0 kPa (263 +/- 35 mmHg, 10 +/- 1.2 in.Hg) to the diaphragm chamber and check that the waste gate valve actuator link operates as shown in the illustration.

      OK

      Check that the waste gate valve actuator link operates as shown in the illustration.

      NOTE:

      Do not apply a vacuum of 65 kPa (488 mmHg, 19 in.Hg) or more to the waste gate valve actuator as doing so may damage the diaphragm.

      HINT: 

      If the result is not as specified, check the waste gate valve actuator with bracket assembly and turbocharger sub-assembly.
