DTC P0500-31: Vehicle Speed Sensor "A" No Signal [06/2018 - 11/2022]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED) 
    1. Drive the vehicle and check whether the operation of the speedometer is normal.

      HINT: 

      • The vehicle speed sensor is operating normally if the speedometer reading is normal.
      • If the speedometer does not operate, check it by following the diagnostic procedure for a malfunction of the speedometer.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Data List / Vehicle Speed.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Vehicle Speed
    5. Drive the vehicle.
    6. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List

      Max.: 255 km/h (158 mph)
      Actual vehicle speed
      • The vehicle speed is detected using the wheel speed sensors.
        • There is a delay in when the vehicle speed data is displayed. Therefore, even if the vehicle speed listed in the freeze frame data is 0 km/h (0 mph), this does not always mean that the malfunction occurred when the vehicle was stopped.

      OK

      The values displayed on the Techstream and speedometer are equal.

    Result:

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [06/2018 - 09/2024]

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - TCM) 
    1. Disconnect the I4 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the C80 TCM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C80-42 (SPD) - I4-36 (+S) Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Connect the C80 TCM connector.
    5. Connect the I4 combination meter assembly connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK METER / GAUGE SYSTEM 
    1. Proceed to Speed Signal Circuit in Meter/Gauge System.

      Refer to Speed Signal Circuit [06/2018 - 01/2019] , or refer to Speed Signal Circuit [01/2019 - 04/2020] , or refer to Speed Signal Circuit [04/2020 - 09/2022] , or refer to Speed Signal Circuit [09/2022 - 11/2022]

  4. CONFIRM MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Start the engine.
    7. Turn the Techstream on.
    8. Drive the vehicle at 24 km/h (15 mph) or more.
    9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Trouble Codes.
    10. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Trouble Codes 

      HINT: 

      If no DTCs (including pending DTCs) are output, the repair has been successfully completed.
