DTC P0335-31: Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" No Signal [01/2019 - 09/2022]: Procedure

  1. CHECK VEHICLE CONDITION 
    1. Choose the model to be inspected.

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (ENGINE SPEED) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Chassis / Transmission / Data List.
    5. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Engine Speed Engine speed Min.: 0 rpm
      Max.: 16383 rpm      		 750 to 850 rpm: Engine idling (shift lever in P, engine warmed up and A/C off) When the crankshaft position sensor is malfunctioning, "Engine Speed" is approximately 0 rpm or varies greatly from the actual engine speed.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Engine Speed

      OK

      The Techstream display changes correctly in response to the engine speed.

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [06/2018 - 09/2024]

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TCM - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the A47 ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the C80 TCM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A47-16 (NEO) - C80-43 (NE) Always Below 1 Ω
      A47-16 (NEO) or C80-43 (NE) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Connect the C80 TCM connector.
    5. Connect the A47 ECM connector.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. REPLACE TCM 
    1. Replace the TCM.

      Refer to COMPONENTS [01/2019 - 03/2019] , or refer to COMPONENTS [03/2019 - 09/2024]

  5. PERFORM REGISTRATION AND INITIALIZATION 
    1. Perform Registration and Initialization.

      for Registration: Refer to REGISTRATION [06/2018 - 09/2024]

      for Initialization: Refer to INITIALIZATION [06/2018 - 09/2022]

  6. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED (P0335-31) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and wait for 5 seconds or more.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      DTCs are not output A
      DTC P0335-31 is output B

    Result:

  7. REPLACE ECM 
    1. Replace the ECM.

      Refer to COMPONENTS [06/2018 - 09/2022]

    PERFORM REGISTRATION AND INITIALIZATION 

    for Registration: Refer to REGISTRATION [06/2018 - 09/2024]

    for Initialization: Refer to INITIALIZATION [06/2018 - 09/2022]

  8. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (SMART KEY SYSTEM (B2286 AND P0335)) 
    1. Check for smart key system DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [01/2019 - 09/2022]

      Result

      DTCs are not output A
      DTC B2286 and/or P0335 are output B

    Result: 

    B 

    GO TO SMART KEY SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [01/2019 - 04/2020]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [04/2020 - 06/2021]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [06/2021 - 09/2022]

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TCM - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the A47 ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the C80 TCM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      A47-16 (NEO) - C80-43 (NE) Always Below 1 Ω
      A47-16 (NEO) or C80-43 (NE) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Connect the C80 TCM connector.

  10. REPLACE TCM
