DTC P12D4-1D: Fuel Pump Control Circuit Current Out of Range [09/2022 - 11/2022]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT FUEL PUMP CONTROL ECU

    *a Component without harness connected
    (Fuel Pump Control ECU)
    - -
    *1 for TMMMS Made *2 for TMC Made
    1. Remove the fuel pump control ECU.
      1. for Hatchback: Refer to REMOVAL [09/2022 - ]
      2. for Sedan: Refer to REMOVAL [04/2020 - ]
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (for TMMMS Made)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      O67-2 (FPU) - O66-3 (GND) Always 2 kΩ or higher
      O67-3 (FPV) - O66-3 (GND) Always 2 kΩ or higher
      O67-4 (FPW) - O66-3 (GND) Always 2 kΩ or higher

      Standard Resistance (for TMC Made)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      O180-2 (FPU) - O172-3 (GND) Always 2 kΩ or higher
      O180-3 (FPV) - O172-3 (GND) Always 2 kΩ or higher
      O180-4 (FPW) - O172-3 (GND) Always 2 kΩ or higher

      HINT: 

      This procedure checks for an internal short of the fuel pump control ECU when its transistor is stuck on.

    REPLACE FUEL PUMP CONTROL ECU 

    1. for Hatchback: Refer to REMOVAL [09/2022 - ]
    2. for Sedan: Refer to REMOVAL [04/2020 - ]

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (FUEL PUMP SINGLE PHASE ENERGIZATION)

    *a Component without harness connected
    (Fuel Pump Control ECU)
    *1 for TMMMS Made
    *2 for TMC Made
    1. Disconnect the O67 (for TMMMS Made) or O180 (for TMC Made) fuel pump control ECU connector.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Fuel Pump Single Phase Energization.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Tester Display
      Fuel Pump Single Phase Energization
    6. Operate the fuel pump control ECU using the Active Test function and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage (for TMMMS Made)

      O67-2 (FPU) - Body ground U Phase 4.4 to 8.4 V*
      O67-3 (FPV) - Body ground 8 to 15.5 V
      O67-4 (FPW) - Body ground 8 to 15.5 V
      O67-3 (FPV) - Body ground V Phase 4.4 to 8.4 V*
      O67-2 (FPU) - Body ground 8 to 15.5 V
      O67-4 (FPW) - Body ground 8 to 15.5 V
      O67-4 (FPW) - Body ground W Phase 4.4 to 8.4 V*
      O67-2 (FPU) - Body ground 8 to 15.5 V
      O67-3 (FPV) - Body ground 8 to 15.5 V

      Standard Voltage (for TMC Made)

      HINT: 

      • *: This Active Test limits the fuel pump control ECU output duty cycle to 50%. Therefore, the output voltage of the fuel pump control ECU will be approximately 50% of the power source voltage (+B terminal).
      • Before performing this inspection, check that the battery voltage is between 11 and 14 V (not depleted).

    REPLACE FUEL PUMP CONTROL ECU 

    1. for Hatchback: Refer to REMOVAL [09/2022 - ]
    2. for Sedan: Refer to REMOVAL [04/2020 - ]

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FUEL PUMP CONTROL ECU - FUEL PUMP (FOR LOW PRESSURE SIDE)) 
    1. Disconnect the fuel pump control ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the fuel pump (for low pressure side) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (for TMMMS Made)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      O67-2 (FPU) or O45-3 (BLPU) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      O67-3 (FPV) or O45-4 (BLPV) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      O67-4 (FPW) or O45-2 (BLPW) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Standard Resistance (for TMC Made)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      O180-2 (FPU) or O45-3 (BLPU) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
      O180-3 (FPV) or O45-4 (BLPV) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

  4. REPLACE FUEL PUMP (FOR LOW PRESSURE SIDE) 
    1. Replace the fuel pump (for low pressure side).

      w/ Canister Pump Module (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension): Refer to REMOVAL [09/2022 - 11/2022]

      w/o Canister Pump Module (for Double Wishbone Type Suspension): Refer to REMOVAL [09/2022 - 11/2022]

      for Torsion Beam Type Suspension: Refer to REMOVAL [09/2022 - 11/2022]

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the fuel pump (for low pressure side).

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [04/2020 - 11/2022]

  5. CLEAR DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

      Result

      Proceed to

  6. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P12D4-1D) 
    1. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    2. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    3. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      OK

      DTCs are not output.

      Result
