DTC P0AD9-15: Hybrid/EV Battery Positive Contactor Circuit Short to Auxiliary Battery or Open [08/2020 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SMRB STATUS) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain/Hybrid Control/Data List/SMRB Status.
    4. Read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List

      SMRB Status

      Standard

    5. Turn the power switch off.

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (FLOOR WIRE CONNECTOR)

  4. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR)

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SMRB VOLTAGE) 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      G46-4 (SMRB) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V

  6. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [04/2018 - 08/2021]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [08/2021 - ]

    CONNECT SECURELY 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the G46 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G46-4 (SMRB) - Body ground Power switch off 19.0 to 59.0 Ω

    3. Reconnect the G46 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.

      Result

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY WIRES) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [08/2020 - 08/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [08/2021 - ]

    3. Disconnect the K18 HV battery junction block assembly connector.

    4. Disconnect the G46 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    6. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G46-4 (SMRB) or K18-1 (SMRB) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      NOTE:

      Turning the power switch on (IG) with the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector and the HV battery junction block assembly connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

    7. Turn the power switch off.
    8. Reconnect the G46 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    9. Reconnect the K18 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    10. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Result

      Proceed to

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU. Refer to  REMOVAL [04/2018 - 08/2021]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [08/2021 - ]

  9. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (FLOOR WIRE CONNECTOR)

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU - HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [08/2020 - 08/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [08/2021 - ]

    3. Disconnect the K18 HV battery junction block assembly connector.

    4. Disconnect the G46 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G46-4 (SMRB) - K18-1 (SMRB) Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G46-4 (SMRB) or K18-1 (SMRB) - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    6. Reconnect the G46 hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
    7. Reconnect the K18 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    8. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Result

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    WARNING:

    5. Reconnect the K18 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    6. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Result

  12. INSPECT HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY (SMRB) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [08/2020 - 08/2021] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [08/2021 - ]

    3. Disconnect the K18 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (HV Battery Junction Block Assembly)      		 - -

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K18-1 (SMRB) - K18-3 (GND) -40 to 80°C (-40 to 176°F) 19.0 to 59.0 Ω
    5. Reconnect the K18 HV battery junction block assembly connector.
    6. Install the No. 1 HV battery cover panel RH.

      Result

      Proceed to

      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [08/2020 - ]

    REPLACE HV BATTERY JUNCTION BLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2020 - 08/2021]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [08/2021 - ]
