Installation [08/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION WIRE 
    1. Apply a light coat of ATF to the O-ring of the transmission wire.

    2. Install the transmission wire to the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly with the bolt.

      Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)

    3. Connect the transmission revolution sensor (NT) connector and transmission revolution sensor (NC) connector.

    4. Install the temperature sensor to the transmission valve body assembly with the bolt and temperature sensor clamp.

      Torque: 10.8 N*m (110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:

      To prevent it from being pinched between the transmission valve body assembly and the transmission case cover side, pass the revolution sensor wire (NC) under the transmission wire (temperature sensor wire) as shown in the illustration.

    5. Connect the 9 shift solenoid valve connectors.

    6. Engage the clamp to the transmission valve body assembly.

      Do not let transmission wire protrude into this area.
      • To prevent it from being pinched between the transmission valve body assembly and the transmission case cover side, do not let the transmission wire ride up over the area shown in the illustration.
      • To prevent it from being pinched between the transmission case cover side and the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly, do not let the transmission wire protrude toward the transmission case cover side installation surface.
  2. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CASE SIDE COVER (for TMC Made) 

    HINT: 

    TMC (TOYOTA) Made and AW (AISIN AW) Made components can be identified by the differing locations where the serial number is stamped.

    1. Clean the transmission case side cover installation surface of the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

      Area to be cleaned
      NOTE:

      Completely remove any oil or grease from the contact surfaces of the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

    2. Clean the 3 bolt holes shown in the illustration.

    3. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads on the end of the bolt (A) and 2 bolts (D).

      Adhesive

      Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent

      NOTE:

      Make sure to install the bolts immediately after applying adhesive to prevent foreign matter from attaching to them.

      HINT: 

      The bolt (A) and 2 bolts (D) are in the locations shown in the following step.

    4. Temporarily install a new transmission case side cover to the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly with the 2 bolts ((A) and (B)).

      NOTE:
      • Bolt (A) is an adhesive-coated bolt.
      • To avoid damaging the gasket, prevent it from contacting the surrounding area during installation procedures.
    5. Temporarily install the 6 bolts (C) and 2 bolts (D).
      NOTE:

      Bolt (D) is an adhesive-coated bolt.

    6. Operate the engine support bridge and the jack to lower the engine and automatic transaxle assembly.
    7. Fully tighten the 10 bolts in the order shown in the illustration.

      *a Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length

      Specified tightening torque for Bolt (A) and Bolt (D) 

      Torque: 6.5 N*m (66 kgf*cm, 58 in.*lbf) 

      Specified tightening torque for Bolt (B) and Bolt (C) 

      Torque: 7.0 N*m (71 kgf*cm, 62 in.*lbf) 

      HINT: 

      • If a socket wrench will not fit, use a union nut wrench.
      • Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

        Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2016 - ]

      • When using a union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 22 mm (0.866 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 162 mm (6.38 in.)) Bolt (A) and Bolt(D):

        5.7 N*m (58 kgf*cm, 50 in.*lbf)

      • When using a union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 22 mm (0.866 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 162 mm (6.38 in.)) Bolt (B) and Bolt (C):

        6.2 N*m (63 kgf*cm, 55 in.*lbf)

    8. Tighten the engine mounting insulator LH with the nut.

      Torque: 95 N*m (969 kgf*cm, 70 ft.*lbf) 

    9. Tighten the front engine mounting insulator assembly with the bolt.

      Torque: 87 N*m (887 kgf*cm, 64 ft.*lbf) 

    10. Connect the transmission wire connector.
  3. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CASE SIDE COVER (for AISIN AW Made) 

    HINT: 

    TMC (TOYOTA) Made and AW (AISIN AW) Made components can be identified by the differing locations where the serial number is stamped.

    1. Clean the transmission case side cover installation surface of the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

      Area to be cleaned
      NOTE:

    2. Temporarily install a new transmission case side cover to the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly with the 2 bolts (A and B).

      NOTE:

      To avoid damaging the gasket, prevent it from contacting the surrounding area during installation procedures.

    3. Temporarily install the 8 bolts (C).
    4. Operate the engine support bridge and the jack to lower the engine and automatic transaxle assembly.
    5. Fully tighten the 10 bolts in the order shown in the illustration.

      *a Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length

      Specified tightening torque 

      Torque: 7.0 N*m (71 kgf*cm, 62 in.*lbf) 

      HINT: 

      • If a socket wrench will not fit, use a union nut wrench.
      • Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

        Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2016 - ]

      • When using a union nut wrench (fulcrum length of 22 mm (0.866 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 162 mm (6.38 in.)):

        6.2 N*m (63 kgf*cm, 55 in.*lbf)

    6. Tighten the engine mounting insulator LH with the nut.

      Torque: 95 N*m (969 kgf*cm, 70 ft.*lbf) 

    7. Tighten the front engine mounting insulator assembly with the bolt.

      Torque: 87 N*m (887 kgf*cm, 64 ft.*lbf) 

    8. Connect the transmission wire connector.
  4. INSTALL OIL COOLER UNION SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Pass the oil cooler union sub-assembly through 2 gaskets and temporarily install it to the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

    2. Temporarily install the oil cooler union sub-assembly bracket portion to the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly with the bolt.
    3. Fully tighten the union bolt.

      Torque: 22.6 N*m (230 kgf*cm, 17 ft.*lbf) 

    4. Fully tighten the bracket portion bolt.

      Torque: 12 N*m (122 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf) 

  5. CONNECT NO. 1 TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE 

    See step  2

  6. CONNECT NO. 2 OUTLET OIL COOLER HOSE 

    See step  3

  7. REMOVE ENGINE SUPPORT BRIDGE 
    1. Remove SST from the vehicle body.
      NOTE:

      Prevent SST from contacting the vehicle body or windshield glass.

  8. REMOVE ENGINE HANGER 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 2 engine hanger from the cylinder head LH.
    2. Remove the bolt, SST (collar) and No. 1 engine hanger from engine hanger attachment.
    3. Remove the 2 bolts and SST (engine hanger attachment) from cylinder head RH.
  9. INSTALL WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET 
    1. Install the wire harness clamp bracket to the cylinder head RH with the bolt.

      Torque: 13 N*m (133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Engage the hose clamp and 3 wire harness clamps.
    3. Connect the air fuel ratio sensor (for Bank 1) connector.
  10. INSTALL AIR SURGE TANK TO INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  11. INSTALL INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  12. CONNECT PURGE VALVE (PURGE VSV) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  13. CONNECT VENTILATION HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  14. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  15. INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER DYNAMIC DAMPER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  16. INSTALL TRANSMISSION OIL THERMOSTAT 

    See step  4

  17. INSTALL VACUUM SURGE TANK WITH BRACKET 
    1. Install the vacuum surge tank with bracket to the front engine mounting bracket with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Connect the 2 vacuum hose sub-assembly to the vacuum surge tank.

      *a Paint Mark

      HINT: 

      Align the paint mark of the vacuum surge tank and hose sub-assembly.

  18. INSTALL DUTY VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  19. INSTALL AIR CLEANER BRACKET 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 63

  20. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 64

  21. INSTALL AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY

  22. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE

  23. INSTALL AIR CLEANER INLET ASSEMBLY

  24. INSTALL BATTERY

  28. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 

    Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) 

    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

  29. ADJUST AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID 

    Refer to ADJUSTMENT [08/2016 - ] 

  30. INSPECT FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID LEAK 
  31. CHECK AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SYSTEM 
  32. INSTALL FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 95

  33. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15

  34. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL LH 

    Torque: 103 N*m (1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
