DTC P0014: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1); DTC P0015: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1); DTC P0024: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 2); DTC P0025: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 2) [12/2015 - 08/2016]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 OR P0025) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read DTCs.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 is output A
      DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 and other DTCs are output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    Result: 

    B 

    GO TO DTC CHART 

    (Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [12/2015 - 08/2016] )

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE VVT EXHAUST LINEAR (BANK 1 OR 2)) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1) or Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 2).
    5. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) using the Techstream.
      OK

      Techstream Operation Engine Condition
      0% Normal engine speed
      100% Engine idles roughly or stalls

      HINT: 

      Refer to "Data List / Active Test" [VVT Ex OCV Duty #1, VVT Ex Chg Angle #1, VVT Ex OCV Duty #2 and VVT Ex Chg Angle #2] (Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

  3. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 OR P0025) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).
    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
    7. Start the engine and warm it up.
    8. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in the Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
    10. Input the DTC: P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025.
    11. Check the DTC judgment result.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      NORMAL (DTC is not output) A
      ABNORMAL (DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 is output) B

    Result: 

    A 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    (Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [12/2015 - 08/2016] )

  4. CHECK VALVE TIMING (CHECK FOR LOOSE OR JUMPED TEETH ON TIMING CHAIN) 
    1. Remove the cylinder head cover sub-assemblies RH and LH.

    2. Turn the crankshaft to align the matchmarks of the crankshaft.
    3. Align the notch of the crankshaft pulley to the "0" position.
    4. Check if the timing marks of the camshaft pulley and camshaft bearing cap align.

    5. Turn the crankshaft clockwise 360° if the timing marks do not align. Check if they align once again.

      OK

      The timing marks of the camshaft pulley and the camshaft bearing cap align when the notch of the crankshaft pulley is in the "0" position.

    Result:

    CHECK ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM 

    (Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7 )

  5. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST SIDE) 
    1. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust side) (Refer to INSPECTION [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST SIDE) 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [12/2015 - 08/2016] )

    Result: 

    OK

  6. INSPECT OIL CONTROL VALVE FILTER AND OIL PIPE 
    1. Remove the No. 1 oil pipe or No. 2 oil pipe.

      *1 No. 2 oil pipe
      *2 No. 1 oil pipe
    2. Remove the oil control valve filter RH or oil control valve filter LH.
    3. Check that the oil control valve filter and oil pipe are not clogged.

      OK

      The oil control valve filter and oil pipe are not clogged.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE OIL CONTROL VALVE FILTER OR OIL PIPE 

    (Refer to DISASSEMBLY [12/2015 - 08/2016] )

  7. REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING EXHAUST GEAR ASSEMBLY (BANK 1 OR 2) 
    1. Replace the camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly (bank 1 or bank 2) (Refer to REMOVAL [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the camshaft timing gear assembly (Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

    Result:

  8. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.

    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
    7. Start the engine and warm it up.

    9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
    10. Input the DTC: P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025.
    11. Check the DTC judgment result.

      HINT: 

      DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 is output when foreign objects in engine oil are caught in some parts of the system. These codes will remain stored even if the system returns to normal after a short time. These foreign objects may then be captured by the oil filter, thus eliminating the source of the problem.
