  1. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER 
    1. Remove the nut, washer and transmission control shaft lever from the manual valve lever shaft sub-assembly.

  2. REMOVE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and park/neutral position switch from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

  3. REMOVE REFILL PLUG 
    1. Remove the refill plug and gasket from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

  4. REMOVE OVERFLOW PLUG 
    1. Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the overflow plug and gasket from the transaxle housing.

  5. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE 
    1. Using a 6 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the No. 1 transmission oil filler tube from the transaxle housing.

  6. REMOVE OIL COOLER UNION SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt to separate the oil cooler union sub-assembly from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

      *1 Union Bolt
    2. Remove the oil cooler union bolt, 2 gaskets and oil cooler union sub-assembly from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.
  7. REMOVE NO. 1 OIL COOLER OUTLET TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a 19 mm union nut wrench, loosen the lock nut.

    2. Using a 17 mm union nut wrench, remove the No. 1 oil cooler outlet tube sub-assembly from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

    3. Remove the O-ring from the No. 1 oil cooler outlet tube sub-assembly.

  8. REMOVE NO. 1 BREATHER PLUG (ATM) 
    1. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, remove the No. 1 breather plug (ATM) from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

  9. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CASE SIDE COVER 
    1. Remove the 10 bolts and transmission case side cover from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

  10. REMOVE TRANSMISSION WIRE 
    1. Disengage the clamp, and disconnect the 9 shift solenoid valve connectors.

    2. Remove the bolt and temperature sensor clamp and disconnect the temperature sensor from the transmission valve body assembly.

    3. Disconnect the transmission revolution sensor connector (NT) and transmission revolution sensor connector (NC).
    4. Remove the bolt and transmission wire from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

  11. REMOVE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the clamp to disconnect the revolution sensor wire connector (NC).

    2. Remove the 9 bolts and transmission valve body assembly from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.
    3. Remove the 2 transaxle case gaskets from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

    4. Remove the transaxle case gasket from the counter drive gear sub-assembly.
    5. Remove the 2 front oil pump cover gaskets from the front oil pump assembly.
  12. REMOVE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (NT) 
    1. Remove the bolt and transmission revolution sensor (NT) from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

  13. REMOVE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (NC)

  14. INSPECT INPUT SHAFT END PLAY 
    1. Using SST and a dial indicator, measure the input shaft end play.

  15. REMOVE TRANSAXLE HOUSING 
    1. Remove the 21 bolts.

    2. Using a plastic hammer, tap on the circumference of the transaxle housing to remove it from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

    3. Remove the 5 transaxle case gaskets from the front oil pump assembly.

      NOTE:

      To avoid damaging the bush of the front oil pump assembly, remove the transmission drive chain, transmission oil pump drive sprocket and oil pump drive shaft sub-assembly horizontally relative to the front oil pump assembly.

    1. Remove the oil pump sprocket rear thrust washer from the front oil pump assembly.

  30. INSPECT CLEARANCE OF C-3 CLUTCH 
    1. Set the C-3 and C-4 clutch assembly on the front oil pump assembly.
    2. Using a dial indicator, measure the clearance of the C-3 clutch while applying compressed air (approximately 200 kPa (2.0 kgf/cm2 , 29 psi)).

      HINT: 

      • Cover the location shown in the illustration with your finger when applying compressed air.
      • To find the clearance, measure in at least 3 locations and average the results.

      If the clearance is not as specified, select an appropriate reverse clutch flange so that the clearance will be within the specified range.

  31. INSPECT CLEARANCE OF C-4 CLUTCH 
    1. Set the C-3 and C-4 clutch assembly on the front oil pump assembly.
    2. Using a dial indicator, measure the clearance of the C-3 clutch while applying compressed air (approximately 400 kPa (4.1 kgf/cm2 , 58 psi)).

    1. Apply compressed air (392 kPa (4.0 kgf/cm2 , 57 psi)) to the oil hole of the C-3 and C-4 clutch sub-assembly to remove the C-4 clutch piston from the C-3 and C-4 clutch sub-assembly.

      NOTE:
      • Applying compressed air may cause the C-4 clutch piston to jump out. When removing the C-4 clutch piston, hold it by hand using a piece of cloth.

    1. Apply compressed air (392 kPa (4.0 kgf/cm2 , 57 psi)) to the oil hole of the clutch drum sub-assembly to remove the forward clutch piston from the clutch drum sub-assembly.

      NOTE:
      • Applying compressed air may cause the forward clutch piston to jump out. When removing the forward clutch piston, hold it by hand using a piece of cloth.

    1. Remove the 4 No. 1 transaxle case plugs from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 4 No. 1 transaxle case plugs from the transaxle housing.

    3. Remove the 8 O-rings from the 8 No. 1 transaxle case plugs.

  121. REMOVE NO. 2 TRANSAXLE CASE PLUG 
    1. Using a 6 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the 3 No. 2 transaxle case plugs and 3 gaskets from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

    2. Using a 6 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the 3 No. 2 transaxle case plugs and 3 gaskets from the transaxle housing.

  122. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE STRAIGHT PIN 
    NOTE:

    It is not necessary to remove the automatic transmission case straight pins unless they are being replaced.

    1. Remove the 2 automatic transmission case straight pins from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.
