DTC P0300: Random / Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected; DTC P0301: Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected; DTC P0302: Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected; DTC P0303: Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected; DTC P0304: Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected; DTC P0305: Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected; DTC P0306: Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected [12/2015 - 08/2016]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO MISFIRE DTCS) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read DTCs.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305 and/or P0306 are output A
      DTC P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305 and/or P0306 and other DTCs are output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305 and P0306 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. CHECK PCV HOSE CONNECTIONS 
    1. Check the PCV hose connections (Refer to COMPONENTS [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

      PCV valve and hose are connected correctly and are not damaged.

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MISFIRE RPM AND MISFIRE LOAD) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Misfire RPM and Misfire Load.
    5. Read and note the Misfire RPM and Misfire Load values.

      HINT: 

      The Misfire RPM and Misfire Load values indicate the vehicle conditions under which the misfire occurred.

  4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CATALYST OT MF F/C) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Catalyst OT MF F/C.
    5. Read the value displayed on the Techstream.

  5. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (PROHIBIT CAT OT F/C) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Prohibit the Catalyst OT Misfire prevent F/C.
    5. Perform the Active Test.
      NOTE:

      When performing the Active Test, make sure the vehicle is stopped and either idling or being revved within 3000 rpm.

  6. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (CYLINDER MISFIRE COUNT) 
    1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Cylinder #1 Misfire Count, Cylinder #2 Misfire Count, Cylinder #3 Misfire Count, #4 Misfire Count, #5 Misfire Count and Cylinder #6 Misfire Count.
    2. Start the engine and allow the engine to idle.
    3. Read each value for Cylinder #1 Misfire Count to Cylinder #6 Misfire Count displayed on the Techstream.

      If no misfire counts occur in any cylinders, perform steps (d) and (e) and then check the misfire counts again.

    4. Drive the vehicle with the Misfire RPM and Misfire Load noted in the "Read Value Using Techstream (Misfire RPM and Misfire Load)" procedures above.
    5. Read the Cylinder #1 Misfire Count to Cylinder #6 Misfire Count or DTCs displayed on the Techstream.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Most misfires occur in only 1 or 2 cylinders A
      3 cylinders or more have equal misfire counts B

      HINT: 

      • If it is difficult to reproduce misfires for each cylinder, check the Data List item called Misfire Margin. Try to find vehicle driving conditions that lower the Misfire Margin value. Values above 30% are considered normal.
      • If the freeze frame data's record of the ECT is below 75°C (167°F), the misfire may be detected only when the engine is cold.
      • If the freeze frame data's record of the Engine Run Time is below 120 seconds, the misfire may be detected immediately after the engine is started.

  7. INSPECT SPARK PLUG 
    1. Inspect the spark plug of the misfiring cylinder (Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 ).

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the spark plug (Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

  8. CHECK FOR SPARKS AND IGNITION (SPARK TEST) 
    1. Disconnect the B7, B8, B9, B10, B11 and B12 fuel injector assembly connectors to prevent the engine from starting.
      WARNING:

      Always disconnect all the fuel injector assembly connectors.

    2. Remove the ignition coil assembly from the cylinder head.
    3. Perform a spark test (Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1 ).

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after repairing or replacing the ignition system (Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

  9. CHECK CYLINDER COMPRESSION PRESSURE 
    1. Measure the cylinder compression pressure of the misfiring cylinder (Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11 ).

  10. CHECK ECM TERMINAL VOLTAGE (#10, #20, #30, #40, #50 AND /OR #60)

    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

      • If the results of the inspections performed in steps 15 and 20 indicated no problem, proceed to the next step without replacing the mass air flow meter.
      • Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the mass air flow meter (Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

  31. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    4. Clear DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).
    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  32. CHANGE TO NORMAL SPARK PLUG AND CHECK SPARK OF MISFIRING CYLINDER 
    1. Change the installed spark plug to a spark plug that functions normally.
    2. Perform a spark test (Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1 ).
      WARNING:

      Always disconnect all injector connectors.

      NOTE:

      Do not crank the engine for more than 2 seconds.

      1. Install the spark plug to the ignition coil assembly and connect the ignition coil assembly connector.
      2. Disconnect the fuel injector assembly connector.
      3. Ground the spark plug.
      4. Check if sparks occur while the engine is being cranked.

        OK

        Sparks jump across electrode gap.

        HINT: 

        Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the spark plug (Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE SPARK PLUG

  33. CHANGE TO NORMAL IGNITION COIL AND CHECK SPARK OF MISFIRING CYLINDER 
    1. Change the ignition coil assembly to an ignition coil assembly that functions normally.
    2. Perform a spark test.
      WARNING:

      Always disconnect all injector connectors.

      NOTE:

      Do not crank the engine for more than 2 seconds.

      1. Install the spark plug to the ignition coil assembly and connect the ignition coil assembly connector.
      2. Disconnect the B7, B8, B9, B10, B11 and B12 fuel injector assembly connectors.
      3. Ground the spark plug.
      4. Check if sparks occur while the engine is being cranked.

        OK

        Sparks jump across electrode gap.

        HINT: 

        Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the ignition coil assembly (Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).
