DTC P0013: Camshaft Position "B" Actuator Circuit / Open (Bank 1); DTC P0023: Camshaft Position "B" Actuator Circuit / Open (Bank 2) [12/2015 - 08/2016]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC (DTC P0013 OR P0023) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P0013 is output A
      DTC P0023 is output B

    Result: 

    B

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE VVT EXHAUST LINEAR (BANK 1)) 
    1. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust side of bank 1) using the Techstream (Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

    Result: 

    OK 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    (Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [12/2015 - 08/2016] )

    Result: 

    NG

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE VVT EXHAUST LINEAR (BANK 2)) 
    1. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust side of bank 2) using the Techstream (Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

    Result: 

    OK 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    (Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [12/2015 - 08/2016] )

    Result: 

    NG

  4. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST SIDE) 
    1. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust side) (Refer to INSPECTION [12/2015 - 08/2016] ).

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST SIDE) 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [12/2015 - 08/2016] )

    Result: 

    OK

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST SIDE) - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust side) connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B38-1 - B1-56 (OE1+) Always Below 1 Ω
      B38-2 - B1-55 (OE1-) Always Below 1 Ω
      B35-1 - B1-50 (OE2+) Always Below 1 Ω
      B35-2 - B1-49 (OE2-) Always Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B38-1 or B1-56 (OE1+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      B38-2 or B1-55 (OE1-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      B35-1 or B1-50 (OE2+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      B35-2 or B1-49 (OE2-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [12/2015 - 08/2016] )

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
