DTC B181A-7A: Short in Passenger Side Airbag Variable Vent Hole Squib Circuit; DTC B181B-7A: Open in Passenger Side Airbag Variable Vent Hole Squib Circuit; DTC B181C-7A: Short to GND in Passenger Side Airbag Variable Vent Hole Squib Circuit; DTC B181D-7A: Short to B+ in Passenger Side Airbag Variable Vent Hole Squib Circuit [08/2015 - 08/2017]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG (VARIABLE VENT HOLE SQUIB)

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the connectors from the front passenger airbag.
    4. Connect the white wire side of SST (resistance: 2.1 Ω) to connector E (orange connector).
      WARNING:

      Never connect the tester to the front passenger airbag (variable vent hole squib) for measurement, as this may lead to a serious injury due to airbag deployment.

      NOTE:
      • Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting SST.
      • Insert SST straight into the terminals of the connector.
      • SST: 09843-18061 
    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    6. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Clear the DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).
    8. Turn the ignition switch off.
    9. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    10. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).

      OK

      DTC B181A, B181B, B181C or B181D is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B181A, B181B, B181C and B181D may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2019] )

    Result: 

    NG

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect SST from connector E.
    4. Check that the instrument panel wire connectors (on the front passenger airbag side) are not damaged.

      OK

      The lock button is not disengaged, and the claw of the lock is not deformed or damaged.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK VARIABLE VENT HOLE SQUIB CIRCUIT 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      z15-1 (P2+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      z15-2 (P2-) - Body ground
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      z15-1 (P2+) - z15-2 (P2-) Always Below 1 Ω
    8. Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector B (Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).
    9. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      z15-1 (P2+) - z15-2 (P2-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      z15-1 (P2+) - Body ground
      z15-2 (P2-) - Body ground

    Result: 

    NG

  4. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR 
    1. Restore the released activation prevention mechanism of connector B to the original condition.
    2. Connect the connectors to the front passenger airbag and center airbag sensor.

    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    5. Clear the DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    8. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).

      OK

      DTC B181A, B181B, B181C or B181D is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B181A, B181B, B181C and B181D may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    Result: 

    OK 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK 

    (Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2015 - 08/2017] )

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2017] )

  5. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Restore the released activation prevention mechanism of connector B to the original condition.

    2. Disconnect the instrument panel wire connector from the No. 2 instrument panel wire assembly.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    5. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Hz2-1 - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      Hz2-2 - Body ground
    6. Turn the ignition switch off.
    7. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    8. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Hz2-1 - Hz2-2 Always Below 1 Ω
    9. Release the activation prevention mechanism built into connector B (Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).
    10. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Hz2-1 - Hz2-2 Always 1 MΩ or higher
      Hz2-1 - Body ground
      Hz2-2 - Body ground

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY

    NG
