DTC B1660-43: Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator Circuit Malfunction [08/2015 - 08/2017]: Procedure

  1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      HINT: 

      Refer to the normal condition of the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator (Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).

      RESULT

      ON/OFF Indicator Illumination Proceed to
      Always ON A
      OFF B

  2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and the integration control and panel.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    Result: 

    NG 

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and the telltale light.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and integration control and panel side) are not damaged (Refer to ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE [08/2015 - 08/2019] ).

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR 
    1. Connect the connector to the integration control and panel.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      OK

      The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.

    Result: 

    NG

  5. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR 
    1. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).
    5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).

      OK

      DTC B1660-43 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1660-43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    Result: 

    OK 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK 

    (Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [08/2015 - 08/2017] )

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2017] )

  6. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL)

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the connector from the integration control and panel.
    4. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H45-5 (PAON) - H45-13 (P-AB) Always Below 1 Ω
    6. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.
    7. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H45-5 (PAON) - H45-13 (P-AB) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      H45-5 (PAON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      H45-13 (P-AB) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
    8. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    9. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    10. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      H45-5 (PAON) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      H45-13 (P-AB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2017] )

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

  7. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor and the integration control and panel.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

    Result: 

    NG 

    CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY 

    Result: 

    OK

  8. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor and the telltale light.
    2. Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor side and integration control and panel side) are not damaged (Refer to ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE [08/2015 - 08/2019] ).

      OK

      The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

  9. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL)

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Disconnect the connector from the integration control and panel.
    4. Using a service wire, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.
      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      H45-5 (PAON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      H45-13 (P-AB) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
    8. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    9. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    10. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      H45-5 (PAON) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V
      H45-13 (P-AB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    Result: 

    OK

  10. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR (SOURCE VOLTAGE) 
    1. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      H45-16 (IG+) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL - BATTERY) 

    Result: 

    OK

  11. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Connect the connector to the integration control and panel.
    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor.
    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    7. Check the indicator according to the value(s) in the table below.

      OK

      Connection Switch Condition Passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator
      H56-23 (PAON) - Body ground Ignition switch ON "ON" comes on
      H56-17 (P-AB) - Body ground Ignition switch ON "OFF" comes on

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2017] )

    Result: 

    OK

  12. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor.
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal and wait for at least 2 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    6. Clear the DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).
    7. Turn the ignition switch off.
    8. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    9. Check for DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).

      OK

      DTC B1660-43 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTC B1660-43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    Result: 

    OK 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK

    REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
