Adjustment [08/2019 - ]: Procedure
- PRELIMINARY PROCEDURES
- w/ Rear Air Suspension System:
- When jacking up or lifting the vehicle, stop operation of the air suspension control system by pressing the height control mode select switch.
- w/ Trailer Towing System (w/ Transmission oil cooler thermostat):
- Using compressed air, etc., blow dust off the thermostat cap to clean it.
- Using a screwdriver, push the shaft of the thermostat.
HINT:
- Pushed amount: 5.5 to 7.0 mm (0.217 to 0.276 in.)
- Push the shaft until the screwdriver contacts the step inside the cap.
- With the shaft of the thermostat pressed, push a pin into a hole on the side of the thermostat's cap. Insert the pin until it passes through the hole on the other side of the thermostat's cap to fix the shaft in place.
HINT:
Pin diameter: 1.0 to 1.8 mm (0.0394 to 0.0709 in.)
- w/ Rear Air Suspension System:
- BEFORE FILLING TRANSMISSION
- When you have replaced the entire transmission, transmission pan, drain plug, valve body and/or torque converter, proceed to the "TRANSMISSION FILL" procedures.
- When you have replaced the transmission hose and/or output shaft oil seal, proceed to the "FLUID TEMPERATURE CHECK" procedures.
- TRANSMISSION FILL
- Remove the refill plug and overflow plug.
- Fill the transmission through the refill hole until fluid begins to trickle out of the overflow tube.
- Reinstall the overflow plug.
- Fill the transmission with the amount of fluid listed in the table below.
Reference Capacity
Repair Fill Amount Transmission pan and drain plug removal 2.1 liters (2.2 US qts, 1.8 Imp. qts) Transmission valve body removal 4.7 liters (5.0 US qts, 4.1 Imp. qts) Torque converter removal 6.1 liters (6.4 US qts, 5.4 Imp. qts) - Install the refill plug.
HINT:
If you cannot fill the listed amount of fluid, do the following below:
- Start the engine to idle.NOTE:
Check that electrical systems such as the air conditioning system, audio system and lighting system are off.
- Move the shift lever through the entire gear range to circulate the fluid.
- Wait for 30 seconds with the engine idling.
- Stop the engine.
- Remove the refill plug.
- Fill the transmission with the remaining fluid until the amount in the table has been filled.
- Install the refill plug.
- Start the engine to idle.
- Remove the refill plug and overflow plug.
- FLUID TEMPERATURE CHECK NOTE:
The ATF temperature can be confirmed by using the Techstream.
- Turn the engine switch off.
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the engine switch on (IG).
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / A/T Oil Temperature 1.
- Check the ATF temperature.NOTE:
If the ATF temperature is above 44°C (111°F), turn the engine switch off and wait until the fluid temperature drops to between 37 and 44°C (99 and 111°F).
- FLUID LEVEL CHECK NOTE:
- It is necessary to change to temperature detection mode in order to idle the vehicle appropriately.
- The ATF temperature must be between 37 and 44°C (99 and 111°F) to accurately check the fluid level.
- When using the Techstream:
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Connect the TC and TE1.
- Depress and hold the brake pedal.
- Start the engine to idle.NOTE:
Check that electrical systems such as the air conditioning system, audio system and lighting system are off.
- Slowly move the shift lever from P to S, then change the gear from 1st to 6th. Then return the shift lever to P.
HINT:
Slowly move the shift lever to circulate the fluid through each part of the transmission.
- Move the shift lever to D, and quickly move back and forth between N and D (once within 1.5 seconds) for at least 6 seconds. This will activate the fluid temperature detection mode.
- Check that the D shift indicator comes on for 2 seconds.
HINT:
- When fluid temperature detection mode is activated, the D shift indicator on the combination meter comes on for 2 seconds.
- If the D shift indicator does not come on for 2 seconds, return to the first step and perform the procedure again.
- Move the shift lever from N to P and terminate the Active Test on the Techstream.
- Release the brake pedal.
- When not using the Techstream:NOTE:
Make sure to switch to fluid temperature detection mode within 60 seconds after starting the engine.
- Move the shift lever to D, and quickly move back and forth between N and D (once within 1.5 seconds) for at least 12 seconds.
- Move the shift lever from N to P.
- Release the brake pedal.
- Allow the engine to idle until the fluid temperature reaches 46 to 52°C (115 to 126°F).
HINT:
The indicator [D] will come on again when the fluid temperature reaches 37°C (99°F) and will blink if it exceeds 44°C (111°F).
INDICATOR [D] INDICATION OF ATF TEMPERATUREBelow 37°C (99°F) 37 to 44°C (99 to 111°F) Exceed 44°C (111°F) Turn off Turn on Blinking - Remove the overflow plug and gasket with the engine idling.
*1 Overflow Tube *a Specified Fluid Level - Wait until the overflow slows to a trickle.NOTE:
If the fluid does not overflow, perform the following:
- Remove the refill plug and gasket.
- Refill the transmission through the refill hole until fluid begins to trickle out of the overflow tube.
- Wait until the overflow slows to a trickle.
- Install a new gasket and the refill plug.
