Removal [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 
    1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain ATF.
    2. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

      Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf/cm, 15 ft.lbf) 

  2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT 

    Refer to: PROCEDURE - Step 2

  3. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the propeller shaft assembly. Refer to: REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] ).
  4. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to: PROCEDURE - Step 6

  5. REMOVE FRONT NO. 3 EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to: PROCEDURE - Step 5

  6. DISCONNECT WATER BY-PASS PIPE ASSEMBLY 

    See step  3

  7. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the nut and clip, and disconnect the transmission control cable.
  8. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the starter assembly. Refer to:

      REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2019]

  9. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT 
    1. Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 bolts and remove the bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley setting bolt with a wrench.

  10. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the automatic transmission with a transmission jack. Lift the automatic transmission slightly from the crossmember.

      NOTE:

      Position the jack so that it supports the oil pan bolt portion, to prevent damage to the oil pan gasket.

  11. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts of the rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator.

    2. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 washers, 4 bolts and No. 3 frame crossmember.

  12. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator from the automatic transmission.

  13. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable.

    2. Tilt the automatic transmission downward.

      NOTE:

      Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.

    3. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, 2 transmission wire connectors and 2 speed sensor connectors.

      HINT: 

      Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    4. Disconnect the 3 connector clamps and 4 harness clamps.
    5. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the harness clamps and wire harness.
  14. DISCONNECT BREATHER PLUG HOSE 
    1. Disconnect the breather plug hose from the harness clamp bracket.

  15. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 10 bolts and automatic transmission.

      NOTE:

      Do not use excess force when prying the automatic transmission.

  16. REMOVE CONNECTOR CLAMP BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and 3 oxygen sensor connector clamp brackets from the automatic transmission.
  17. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and transmission control cable bracket.
  18. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the torque converter clutch from the automatic transmission.
  19. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH AND DRIVE PLATE 
    1. Inspect the torque converter clutch and drive plate. Refer to: INSPECTION [08/2015 - ] ).
