Additional Key cannot be Registered [08/2019 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Smart Key / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check for DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2019 - ]

      NOTE:

      If a malfunction occurs, do not remove/install the vehicle battery before checking for DTCs.

      OK

      DTCs are not output.

      Result

    Result: 

    NG 

    GO TO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2019 - ]

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (UNMATCHED VEHICLE-ID) 
    1. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Smart Key / Data List.
    2. Read the Data List according to the display on the Techstream.
      SMART KEY

      The vehicle ID registered in the vehicle and the vehicle ID registered in the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly are different (if a key from another vehicle is brought into the vehicle exterior detection area while the doors are locked, "Yes" is displayed for "Unmatched Vehicle-ID" in the Data List).
      Other potential causes:
      • An electrical key transmitter sub-assembly from a different vehicle is being used.
      • A communication error due to wave interference.
      • The electrical key transmitter sub-assembly or certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is malfunctioning.

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (OPERATION HISTORY LIST) 
    1. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Smart Key / Utility / Operation History / Certification ECU operation log of ID code registration.

    NEW KEY REGISTRATION FAILED, CHECK THE KEY 

    1. Check if a registered electrical key transmitter sub-assembly was held near the engine switch instead of an unregistered electrical key transmitter sub-assembly by mistake.
    2. Perform registration again using an unregistered electrical key transmitter sub-assembly. If the same problem occurs again, replace the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly).

    CHECK RETRY THE REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

  4. CHECK PUSH-BUTTON START FUNCTION 
    1. Remove the transmitter battery from the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly.

      *2 Electrical Key Transmitter Sub-assembly

      Refer to REPLACEMENT [08/2019 - ]

    2. With the brake pedal depressed, hold the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly near the engine switch and check if the power source mode changes.

      OK

      The power source mode changes.

      HINT: 

      If the power source mode changes, the cabin verification is malfunctioning.

  5. CHECK STEERING LOCK FUNCTION 
    1. Check that the steering unlocks when all of the following conditions are met.
      • The electrical key transmitter sub-assembly is inside the vehicle.
      • Engine switch is on (ACC) or on (IG).

      HINT: 

      Check that the communication between the steering lock ECU (upper steering column with switch bracket assembly) and certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) is normal.

      OK

      The steering unlocks.

  6. REGISTRATION 
    1. Using another unregistered electrical key transmitter sub-assembly, perform the additional registration procedure.

      HINT: 

      Refer to Registration.

    REPLACE ELECTRICAL KEY TRANSMITTER SUB-ASSEMBLY (FIRST REGISTERED KEY WAS DEFECTIVE)

  7. CHECK CERTIFICATION ECU (SMART KEY ECU ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Temporarily replace the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) with a new one and register the electrical key transmitter sub-assemblies.

      Refer to REMOVAL [08/2019 - ]

      HINT: 

      Refer to Registration.

      Refer to REGISTRATION [08/2019 - ]

      OK

      All of the electrical key transmitter sub-assemblies could be registered to the new certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) successfully.
