DTC P0335: Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit; DTC P0337: Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Low Input; DTC P0338: Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit High Input; DTC P0339: Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Intermittent [08/2015 - 08/2017]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (ENGINE SPEED) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / Engine Speed.
    4. Start the engine.
    5. Read the values displayed on the Techstream while the engine is running.

      Standard

      Correct values are displayed.

      HINT: 

      • To check the engine speed change, display the graph on the Techstream.
      • If the engine does not start, check the engine speed while cranking.
      • If the engine speed indicated on the Techstream remains zero (0), there may be an open or short in the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor circuit.

    Result: 

    OK 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    (Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [08/2015 - 08/2018] )

    Result: 

    NG

  2. INSPECT CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (SENSOR POWER SOURCE)

    1. Disconnect the D1 crankshaft position sensor connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      D1-3 (VC) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 4.5 to 5.0 V

    Result: 

    NG

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the D1 crankshaft position sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the D56 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D1-1 (NE+) - D56-110 (NE+) Always Below 1 Ω
      D1-2 (NE-) - D56-111 (NE-) Always Below 1 Ω
      D1-1 (NE+) or D56-110 (NE+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      D1-2 (NE-) or D56-111 (NE-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CHECK SENSOR INSTALLATION (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR)

    1. Check the crankshaft position sensor installation.

      OK

      Sensor is installed correctly.

    Result: 

    NG 

    SECURELY REINSTALL SENSOR 

    (Refer to INSTALLATION [08/2015 - 08/2018] )

    Result: 

    OK

  5. CHECK CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE (TEETH OF SENSOR PLATE) 
    1. Check the teeth of the sensor plate.

      OK

      Sensor plate does not have any cracks or deformation.

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] )

    Result: 

    OK

  6. REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR 
    1. Replace the crankshaft position sensor (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] ).

    Result:

  7. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0335, P0337, P0338 AND/OR P0339) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2018] ).
    5. Refer to the confirmation driving pattern.
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
    7. Read DTCs.
      RESULT

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      No output A
      P0335, P0337, P0338 and/or P0339 B

      HINT: 

      If the engine does not start, replace the ECM.

    Result: 

    END 

    Result: 

    REPLACE ECM 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] )

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the D1 crankshaft position sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the D56 ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D1-3 (VC) - D56-66 (VCV2) Always Below 1 Ω

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] )

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
