DTC P0014: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1); DTC P0015: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1); DTC P0024: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 2); DTC P0025: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 2) [08/2015 - 08/2018]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 OR P0025) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
    4. Read DTCs.
      RESULT

      Display (DTC output) Proceed to
      P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 A
      P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 and other DTCs B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    Result: 

    B 

    GO TO DTC CHART

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (OPERATE OCV) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the Techstream on.
    3. Warm up the engine.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank1) or Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank2).
    5. Check the engine speed while operating the Oil Control Valve (OCV) using the Techstream.

      OK

      Operation Specified Condition
      0% Normal engine speed
      100% Engine idles roughly or stalls

    Result: 

    NG

  3. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 OR P0025) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the Techstream on.
    3. Clear the DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2018] ).
    4. Warm up the engine.
    5. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in the Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    6. Read the output pending DTCs using the Techstream.

      OK

      No pending DTC output.

    Result: 

    OK 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    (Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [08/2015 - 08/2018] )

    Result: 

    NG

  4. CHECK VALVE TIMING (CHECK FOR LOOSE AND JUMPED TEETH ON TIMING CHAIN)

    1. Remove the cylinder head cover LH and RH.
    2. Turn the crankshaft pulley, and align its groove with the timing mark "0" of the timing chain cover.
    3. Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing gears and camshaft timing exhaust gears are at the positions shown in the illustration.

      OK

      Timing marks on camshaft timing gears are aligned as shown in the illustration.

    Result: 

    NG 

    CHECK ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM 

    (Refer to INSPECTION [08/2015 - 08/2018] )

  5. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (Refer to INSPECTION [08/2015 - 08/2018] ).

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] )

    Result: 

    OK

  6. INSPECT OIL CONTROL VALVE FILTER 
    1. Remove the oil control valve filter (Refer to DISASSEMBLY [08/2015 - 08/2018] ).
    2. Check that the filter is not clogged.

      OK

      Filter is not clogged.

    NG 

    CLEAN OIL CONTROL VALVE FILTER 

    Result: 

    OK

  7. REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING EXHAUST GEAR ASSEMBLY (FOR BANK 1 OR BANK 2) 
    1. Replace the camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly (for bank 1 or bank 2) (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] ).

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly. Refer to:

      INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 08/2017]

      INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - 08/2018]

    Result:

  8. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the Techstream on.
    3. Clear the DTCs (Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2015 - 08/2018] ).
    4. Warm up the engine.
    5. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in the Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    6. Read the output pending DTCs using the Techstream.

      OK

      No pending DTC output.

      HINT: 

      DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 is output when foreign objects in the engine oil are caught in some parts of the system. These codes will stay registered even if the system returns to normal after a short time. These foreign objects are then captured by the oil filter, thus eliminating the source of the problem.

    Result:

    REPLACE ECM
