VC Output Circuit [08/2015 - 08/2017]: Procedure

  1. CHECK MIL 
    1. Check that the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) lights up when turning the ignition switch to ON.

      OK

      MIL lights up

    Result: 

    OK 

    SYSTEM OK 

    Result: 

    NG

  2. CHECK COMMUNICATION BETWEEN TECHSTREAM AND ECM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and Techstream ON.
    3. Check the communication between the Techstream and ECM.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      Communication is possible A
      Communication is not possible B

    Result: 

    GO TO MIL CIRCUIT 

    (Refer to MIL Circuit [08/2015 - 08/2017] )

  3. CHECK MIL (THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the D4 throttle body assembly connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      MIL illuminates A
      MIL does not illuminate B

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after repairing or replacing the throttle body assembly (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 08/2017] ).

    Result: 

    REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY

  4. CHECK MIL (ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the A17 accelerator pedal position sensor connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      MIL illuminates A
      MIL does not illuminate B

    Result: 

    REPLACE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY

  5. CHECK MIL (CANISTER PUMP MODULE) 
    1. Disconnect the O24 canister pump module connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to

      MIL does not illuminate B

    Result: 

    REPLACE CANISTER PUMP MODULE

  6. CHECK MIL (AIR SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1)) 
    1. Disconnect the D37 air switching valve assembly (for Bank 1) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      MIL illuminates A
      MIL does not illuminate B

    Result: 

    REPLACE AIR SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY

  7. CHECK MIL (AIR SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2)) 
    1. Disconnect the D38 air switching valve assembly (for Bank 2) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      MIL illuminates A
      MIL does not illuminate B

    Result: 

    REPLACE AIR SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY

  8. CHECK MIL (POWER STEERING OIL PRESSURE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the D30 power steering oil pressure sensor connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      MIL does not illuminate B

    Result: 

    REPLACE POWER STEERING OIL PRESSURE SENSOR

  9. CHECK MIL (CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the D2 camshaft position sensor connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      MIL does not illuminate B

    Result: 

    REPLACE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

  10. CHECK MIL (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the D1 crankshaft position sensor connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      MIL does not illuminate B

    Result: 

    REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

  11. CHECK MIL (VVT SENSOR (for Intake Side of Bank 1)) 
    1. Disconnect the D22 VVT sensor (for Intake Side of Bank 1) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      MIL illuminates A
      MIL does not illuminate B

    Result: 

    REPLACE VVT SENSOR (for Intake Side of Bank 1)

  12. CHECK MIL (VVT SENSOR (for Exhaust Side of Bank 1)) 
    1. Disconnect the D24 VVT sensor (for Exhaust Side of Bank 1) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.

      MIL does not illuminate B

  13. CHECK MIL (VVT SENSOR (for Intake Side of Bank 2)) 
    1. Disconnect the D23 VVT sensor (for Intake Side of Bank 2) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      MIL illuminates A
      MIL does not illuminate B

    Result: 

    REPLACE VVT SENSOR (for Intake Side of Bank 2)

  14. CHECK MIL (VVT SENSOR (for Exhaust Side of Bank 2)) 
    1. Disconnect the D25 VVT sensor (for Exhaust Side of Bank 2) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      MIL illuminates A
      MIL does not illuminate B

    Result: 

    REPLACE VVT SENSOR (for Exhaust Side of Bank 2)

  15. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Disconnect the D4 throttle body assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the A17 accelerator pedal position sensor connector.
    3. Disconnect the O24 canister pump module connector.
    4. Disconnect the D37 air switching valve assembly (for Bank 1) connector.
    5. Disconnect the D38 air switching valve assembly (for Bank 2) connector.
    6. Disconnect the D30 power steering oil pressure sensor connector.
    7. Disconnect the D2 camshaft position sensor connector.
    8. Disconnect the D1 crankshaft position sensor connector.
    9. Disconnect the D22 VVT sensor (for Intake Side of Bank 1) connector.
    10. Disconnect the D24 VVT sensor (for Exhaust Side of Bank 1) connector.
    11. Disconnect the D23 VVT sensor (for Intake Side of Bank 2) connector.
    12. Disconnect the D25 VVT sensor (for Exhaust Side of Bank 2) connector.
    13. Disconnect the A27 and D56 ECM connectors.
    14. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D56-80 (VCTA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A27-57 (VCPA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A27-59 (VCP2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      D56-66 (VCV2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      D56-67 (VCV1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2018] )

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 



  1. CHECK CONNECTION BETWEEN GTS AND ECM 
    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the GTS on.
    4. Check the communication between the GTS and ECM.

      HINT: 

      It can be checked using the "Engine" item of the Data List.

      OK

      Communication is possible

    Result: 

    OK 

    PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    Result: 

    NG

  2. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (POWER SOURCE OF EFI NO. 2) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      EFI NO. 2 fuse terminal - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

      HINT: 

      • Check the fuse with it installed to the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.
      • If the result is not as specified, since current is not flowing to the +B and +B2 terminals of the ECM assembly, the system may not be started.

    Result: 

    NG 

    GO TO ECM POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT 

    (Refer to ECM Power Source Circuit [08/2017 - 08/2018] )

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK MIL (THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the D4 throttle body connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      MIL illuminates A
      MIL does not illuminate B

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the throttle body (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - 08/2018] ).

    Result: 

    REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY

  6. CHECK MIL (AIR SWITCHING VALVE for Bank 1) 
    1. Disconnect the D37 air switching valve (for Bank 1) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.

      MIL does not illuminate B

    REPLACE AIR SWITCHING VALVE

  7. CHECK MIL (AIR SWITCHING VALVE for Bank 2) 
    1. Disconnect the D38 air switching valve (for Bank 2) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.
      RESULT

      MIL does not illuminate B

    REPLACE AIR SWITCHING VALVE

    1. Disconnect the D30 power steering oil pressure sensor connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  9. CHECK MIL (CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR)

    1. Disconnect the D22 VVT sensor (for Intake Side of Bank 1) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.

  12. CHECK MIL (VVT SENSOR for Exhaust Side of Bank 1) 
    1. Disconnect the D24 VVT sensor (for Exhaust Side of Bank 1) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    1. Disconnect the D23 VVT sensor (for Intake Side of Bank 2) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.

      MIL does not illuminate B

  14. CHECK MIL (VVT SENSOR for Exhaust Side of Bank 2) 
    1. Disconnect the D25 VVT sensor (for Exhaust Side of Bank 2) connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Check the MIL.

      MIL illuminates A
      MIL does not illuminate B

    Result:

  15. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Disconnect the D4 throttle body connector.
    2. Disconnect the A17 accelerator pedal position sensor connector.
    3. Disconnect the O24 canister pump module connector.
    4. Disconnect the D37 air switching valve (for Bank 1) connector.
    5. Disconnect the D38 air switching valve (for Bank 2) connector.
    6. Disconnect the D30 power steering oil pressure sensor connector.
    7. Disconnect the D2 camshaft position sensor connector.
    8. Disconnect the D1 crankshaft position sensor connector.
    9. Disconnect the D22 VVT sensor (for Intake Side of Bank 1) connector.
    10. Disconnect the D24 VVT sensor (for Exhaust Side of Bank 1) connector.
    11. Disconnect the D23 VVT sensor (for Intake Side of Bank 2) connector.
    12. Disconnect the D25 VVT sensor (for Exhaust Side of Bank 2) connector.
    13. Disconnect the integration relay connector.
    14. Disconnect the A27 and D56 ECM connectors.
    15. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D56-125 (VCTA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A27-55 (VCPA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A27-58 (VCP2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      D56-110 (VCV2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      D56-87 (VCV1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      D56-75 (VCAI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      D56-102 (VCCP) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A27-2 (+B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A27-3 (+B2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A27-2 (+B) - 2B-4 Always Below 1 Ω
      A27-3 (+B2) - 2B-4 Always Below 1 Ω

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM
