Removal [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL 
  2. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID 
    NOTE:

    Wash brake fluid off immediately if it is spilled on any painted surface.

  3. DISCONNECT REAR FLEXIBLE HOSE LH 
    1. Remove the union bolt and gasket, and then disconnect the flexible hose from the rear disc brake cylinder. Use a container to catch brake fluid as it drains out.

  4. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the 2 slide pins.

    2. Remove the cylinder from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  5. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD 
    1. Remove the 2 brake pads from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  6. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM 
    1. Remove the anti-squeal shim from each disc brake pad.
  7. REMOVE PAD WEAR INDICATOR PLATE 
    1. Remove the pad wear indicator plate from the inner disc brake pad.
  8. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE 
    NOTE:
    • The pad support plates are attached to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting with double-sided tape. When removing the brake pads, make sure the pad support plates are not detached.

      If the pad support plates are not detached, they can be reused.

      If they are detached, replace the pad support plates with new ones.

    • If the pad support plates are removed during maintenance of parts, replace them with new ones.
    1. Remove the 4 pad support plates from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  9. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING LH 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

      NOTE:

      If the pad support plates are removed during maintenance of parts, replace them with new ones.

    2. Remove the 2 rear disc brake bush dust boots from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
  10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG 
  11. REMOVE REAR DISC 
    1. Put matchmarks on the rear disc and axle hub if planning to reuse the disc.

    2. Turn the shoe adjuster until the disc turns freely, and then remove the disc.
