Automatic High Beam System does not Operate or Operation Indicator does not Illuminate [08/2017 - 08/2019]: Procedure

  1. CHECK AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM INDICATOR LIGHT 
    1. Check the operation of the automatic high beam indicator light.
      • Turn the ignition switch to ON.
      • Turn the light control switch to the Auto or Head position.
      • Turn the headlight dimmer switch to the High position.
      • Turn the auto high beam switch on.

      OK

      Automatic high beam indicator light illuminate.

      Result

      Proceed to

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Using the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [08/2017 - 08/2019]

      1. Shine a light on the automatic high beam sensor*.

        HINT: 

        *: If troubleshooting is being performed in a bright area, such as outside on a sunny day, it will not be necessary to perform this step.

        *1 Forward Recognition Camera (Automatic High Beam Sensor)
        *2 Work Light or Equivalent
        *a 100 mm (3.94 in.) or less

  3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Using the Techstream, read the Data List.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [08/2017 - 08/2019]

      1. Cover the automatic high beam sensor with an opaque object, such as cardboard.
        NOTE:
        • Make sure that there is no clearance between the cardboard or equivalent object and the area of the windshield glass in front of the automatic high beam sensor.
        • If there is any clearance, light may shine on the automatic high beam sensor and the value of the Data List will not change.

  6. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the Techstream.

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [08/2017 - 08/2019]

    REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2017 - ] 

  7. INSPECT AUTO HIGH BEAM SWITCH 
    1. Remove the auto high beam switch.

      Refer to REMOVAL [08/2017 - ]

    2. Inspect the auto high beam switch.

      Refer to INSPECTION [08/2017 - ]

      Result

    REPLACE AUTO HIGH BEAM SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2017 - ]

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (AUTO HIGH BEAM SWITCH - MAIN BODY ECU [MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU] AND BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the H138 auto high beam switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the H133 main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H138-4 (B) - H133-17 (AHBI) Always Below 1 Ω
      H138-1 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      H138-4 (B) or H133-17 (AHBI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU). Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2017 - 08/2019]
