DTC P162B-87: Lost Communication with Battery Monitor Module Missing Message [02/2019 - 08/2020]: Procedure

  1. CHECK BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION CONDITION 
    1. Check installation condition of the battery state sensor assembly.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    INSTALL THE BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY CORRECTLY. Refer to  INSTALLATION [11/2018 - ] 

    Result: 

    OK

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 
    1. Check that the battery state sensor assembly connector is securely connected.

      OK

      The connector is securely connected.

    2. Disconnect the Q14 battery state sensor assembly connector.
    3. Check the connector case and terminals for deformation or corrosion.

      OK

      No deformation or corrosion.

    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Q14-1 (+B) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY - AUXILIARY BATTERY) 

    Result: 

    OK

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY - BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the A29 hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the Q14 battery state sensor assembly connector.
    3. Disconnect the C52 compressor with motor assembly connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A29-8 (LIN3) - Q14-2 (LIN) Always Below 1 Ω
      Q14-2 (LIN), A29-8 (LIN3) or C52-3 (DOUT) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY - BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY) 

    Result: 

    OK

  4. CLEAR DTCS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check for DTCs, and note down any DTCs that are output.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Trouble Codes 

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    7. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Clear DTCs 

    8. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 30 seconds or more.

      Result

      Proceed to
      NEXT

    Result: 

    NEXT

  5. CLEAR DTCS (AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM) 
    1. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Trouble Codes.
    2. Check for DTCs, and note down any DTCs that are output.

      Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Trouble Codes 

    3. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Trouble Codes.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 30 seconds or more.

      Result

      Proceed to
      NEXT

    Result: 

    NEXT

  6. CHECK FOR DTCS 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait for 17 minutes or more.
    2. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    3. Check for DTCs.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P162B-87 is output. A
      DTCs are not output. B

    Result: 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    for 2WD:

    Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [11/2018 - 08/2020]

    for AWD:

    Refer to CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS [02/2019 - ]

  7. CHECK FOR DTCS (AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Trouble Codes.
    5. Check for DTCs when the following conditions are met.

      Body Electrical > Air Conditioner > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1498 is output. A
      DTCs are not output. B

    Result: 

    REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [02/2019 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020] 

    Result: 

    REPLACE BATTERY STATE SENSOR ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [02/2019 - 10/2019]  , or refer to  REMOVAL [10/2019 - 08/2020]
