Inspection [06/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK (for Inverter) 
    1. Remove the inverter reserve tank cap.
      WARNING:
      • When coolant (for inverter) is hot, do not remove the inverter reserve tank cap.
      • Fluid and steam may spray out due to high pressure, possibly resulting in burns.

    2. Install the radiator cap tester.

    3. Pump the radiator cap tester to 137 kPa (1.4 kgf/ cm2 20 psi), and then check that the pressure does not drop.

      HINT: 

      If pressure has decreased, check that there are no leaks from the following locations.

      • Each hose
      • Radiator assembly
      • EV water pump with motor assembly
      • Inverter with converter assembly
      • Inverter reserve tank sub-assembly
      • FC converter assembly
      • FC water and hydrogen pump inverter assembly
      • FC air with motor compressor assembly
    4. Remove the radiator cap tester, then reinstall the inverter reserve tank cap.
  2. INSPECT COOLANT LEVEL IN RESERVE TANK (for Inverter) 
    1. The coolant should be between the low and full lines when the coolant (for inverter) is cold.

      HINT: 

      If the coolant level is low, check for leaks and add TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC) or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, and non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology up to the full line.

  3. INSPECT COOLANT QUALITY (for Inverter) 
    1. Remove the inverter reserve tank cap.
      WARNING:
      • When coolant (for inverter) is hot, do not remove the inverter reserve tank cap.
      • Fluid and steam may spray out due to high pressure, possibly resulting in burns.

    2. Check for excessive deposits of rust or scale on and around the inverter reserve tank cap and its opening.

      HINT: 

      If excessively dirty, clean the inverter reserve tank cap and replace the coolant (for inverter).

    3. Install the inverter reserve tank cap.
  4. INSPECT INVERTER RESERVE TANK CAP (for Inverter) 
    1. Inspect the reserve tank cap.

      *1 O-ring
      *2 Packing
      1. If there are water stains or foreign matter on the O-ring, clean it with water and finger scouring.
        NOTE:

        Do not use any tools.

      2. Check that the O-ring is not deformed, cracked, or damaged.
      3. Check that the O-ring is not swollen.
    2. Check the reserve tank cap operation.

      *1 INVERTER RESERVE TANK CAP
      *a RADIATOR CAP TESTER
      *b 30° or more
      1. Apply coolant (for inverter) to the O-ring and rubber packing before using a radiator cap tester.
      2. Install the inverter reserve tank cap to the radiator cap tester.
      3. Pump the radiator cap tester several times and check the maximum pressure.
        JUDGMENT CRITERION

        Standard Value (for Brand-new Cap) 94 to 123 kPa (1.0 to 1.2 kgf/cm2 , 13.6 to 18 psi)
        Minimum Standard Value (for Used Cap) 94 kPa (1.0 kgf/cm2 , 13.6 psi)
        Pump Speed 1 pump per second
        NOTE:

        When using the radiator cap tester, tilt it upward 30° or more.

        HINT: 

        If the maximum pressure is less than the minimum standard value, replace the inverter reserve tank cap.
