DTC P0617: Starter Relay Circuit High [12/2013 - 11/2016]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Data List.

      Powertrain > ECT > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Starter Signal Starter signal Open or Close Open: Starter operating
      Close: Starter not operating
      -

      Powertrain > ECT > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Starter Signal
    5. Crank the engine.
    6. Read the value displayed on the Techstream.

      OK

      Tester Display Condition Specified Condition
      Starter Signal Ignition switch ON Close
      Starter Signal Engine is cranking Open

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE [12/2013 - ] 

    Result:  2

    NG

  2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Park/Neutral Position Switch Assembly)
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C14-4 (B) - C14-9 (L) Shift lever in P Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever in N Below 1 Ω
      Shift lever not in P or N 10 kΩ or higher
      C14-1 (RB) - C14-9 (L) Shift lever in P 10 kΩ or higher
      Shift lever in R 10 kΩ or higher
      Shift lever in N 10 kΩ or higher
      Shift lever in D 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2013 - 11/2016] 

    Result:  1

    OK

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TCM - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the TCM connector.

      (to TCM)
    2. Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.
    3. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C3-10 (STA) - Body ground Ignition switch ON Below 1 V

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result:  1

    OK

  4. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2013 - 11/2016]

      Powertrain > ECT > Clear DTCs 

    5. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT/ Trouble Codes.

      Powertrain > ECT > Trouble Codes 

    7. Read the DTCs.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output OK
      DTC P0617 is output NG

    Result:  1

    OK 

    END 

    Result:  2

    NG 

    REPLACE TCM. Refer to  COMPONENTS [12/2013 - 11/2016]
