DTC P0351: Ignition Coil "A" Primary / Secondary Circuit; DTC P0352: Ignition Coil "B" Primary / Secondary Circuit; DTC P0353: Ignition Coil "C" Primary / Secondary Circuit; DTC P0354: Ignition Coil "D" Primary / Secondary Circuit; DTC P0355: Ignition Coil "E" Primary / Secondary Circuit; DTC P0356: Ignition Coil "F" Primary / Secondary Circuit [12/2013 - 11/2016]: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Toyota Highlander, 2015 Toyota Highlander, and 2014 Toyota Highlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. READ OUTPUT DTCS (DTC P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354, P0355 OR P0356) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2013 - 11/2016]

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Shuffle the arrangement of the ignition coil assemblies (among No. 1 to No. 6 cylinders).
      NOTE:

      Do not change the location of the connectors.

    7. Perform a simulation test.
    8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    9. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Same DTC output A
      Different ignition coil DTC output B

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the ignition coil assembly.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2013 - 11/2016]

    REPLACE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2013 - 11/2016]

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the ignition coil assembly connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C42-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C43-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C45-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C46-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C48-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C49-4 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result:  2

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

  3. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (POWER SOURCE OF IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY)

    (to Ignition Coil Assembly)
    1. Disconnect the ignition coil assembly connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C42-1 (+B) - C42-4 (GND) Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C43-1 (+B) - C43-4 (GND) Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C45-1 (+B) - C45-4 (GND) Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C46-1 (+B) - C46-4 (GND) Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V
      C48-1 (+B) - C48-4 (GND) Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the ignition coil assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C42-3 (IGT1) - C1-107 (IGT1) Always Below 1 Ω
      C43-3 (IGT2) - C1-140 (IGT2) Always Below 1 Ω
      C45-3 (IGT3) - C1-106 (IGT3) Always Below 1 Ω
      C46-3 (IGT4) - C1-139 (IGT4) Always Below 1 Ω
      C48-3 (IGT5) - C1-105 (IGT5) Always Below 1 Ω
      C49-3 (IGT6) - C1-138 (IGT6) Always Below 1 Ω
      C42-2 (IGF) - C1-103 (IGF1) Always Below 1 Ω

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY - SEMICONDUCTOR PWR INTEGRATION ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the ignition coil assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the semiconductor pwr integration ECU connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C42-1 (+B) - 1G-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      C43-1 (+B) - 1G-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      C45-1 (+B) - 1G-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      C46-1 (+B) - 1G-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      C48-1 (+B) - 1G-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      C49-1 (+B) - 1G-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      C42-1 (+B) or 1G-3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C43-1 (+B) or 1G-3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C45-1 (+B) or 1G-3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C46-1 (+B) or 1G-3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C48-1 (+B) or 1G-3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
